Me Time!

I m abit worry of kids getting too dependent on tuitions. I tried to understand the O Chem&A.Maths and I find that can actually study on own. Just need to revise more to pick up speed maybe. I don't see reasons for not able to understand..Maybe I haven't gone deeper into the subjects
but dd never accepted my gesture..she says she has her own ways to understand and we have different ways. I will try to pay more attention to dd on her new journey. Will try to keep up with her and get her additional help when needed. It is indeed trial & error parenting. -

Just to ride on & add my perspective.
Yeah. It's really not easy getting anything below AL10. I salute all those who scored AL8-10 and all those AL5-8 people are not human
But remember... PSLE is just one measure of a person's capability. It doesn't say that a person is stupid just because the person got AL10 or above. It is people who uses the grade to sort students into secondary schools that make it seem like it is. PSLE is the measure of competency in the Primary school subjects, just like the color of belts measure the competency of people training in Taekwondo, or the grades used to measure pianists as they progress. One might not be good in PSLE, but there's always something out there that one excels in.
Life is really about seeking out what one is good at, and then following your dream.
PSLE is only a snapshot of a child’s capability at a point in time. If a child did not perform academically well at that milestone, he/she might be ready to pickup speed by O levels stage & some might catch up or surpass those who did well at earlier milestones.
As parents, we are always on the lookout for slow or fast learners to provide extra support or provide resources to enable their learning, which shld expand beyond academics. A child needs to grow emotionally, which reasonable progress in academics helps them hv a wholesome/balance view of themselves. If they fall behind, we guide them towards their strength & provide scaffolding for them to spring with confidence from thereon. For some kids, more guidance might be required till they find a strong footing, but we learn to let go & let them grow their own muscles of independence in navigating their teen world towards adulthood.
I rmbr a frd whose 1stborn was with mild autism but ‘supremely bright’. He wants loads of independence as he sees & learn stuff a lot faster than even adults, except he’s still very reliant on physical help & emotional guidance. At age 16, he still hv problems dressing up or tying shoe laces. He’s got a helper just to attend to his needs. But he got perfect scores for his IB & the father went over to Yale with him & got a Mexican nanny there for him. Dad drives him to uni daily whilst mum cared for 2 younger siblings in SG. A younger boy as brilliant in study & personal progress w/o extra tuition, whilst sister is more artistic & did very well for studies but all had to be supported by home tuition & Learning Lab tuition. She’s more laid back.
Every child is different. Some need to be prooded, some want to be free to spread their wings w/o interference. As parents, we assess their limitations & quietly give support (s’times hv to support them w/o them feeling we’re meddling).
I hope next year is the beginning of being free fr parenthood gradually. Only step in when they want help. Start treating them as emerging adults. -

My DH’s niece and nephew had tuition for almost all subjects before A levels. I am not sure if they need tuition but SIL was a FTWM so she felt bad she can’t help them w their school work so she engaged tutors for them. I observed that my niece and nephew did very well in university on their own w/o tuition. So no need to think too much about fear of over reliance on tuition.

This world is cruel. 笑贫不笑娼。
It it the outcome that matters. University admission is based on grades and no one cares if your grades are based on your own effort or obtained with the help of tuition -

Haha, considering your age, it will be sad if it ends up that you 亦娼亦贫

Please don’t take the phrase literally and always consider the context under which the phrase is used. My point is that in the pursuit of academic excellence, receiving tuition is perfectly acceptable. A student who receives tuition throughout his student life but graduated from Law/Medicine faculty definitely has the last laugh over another student who prides himself never to have received tuition but fails to gain admission to university. -

Yes, I and DH both failed to gain admission to University but how could you conclude that we don't have the last laugh? Maybe we are not excel in our materials life but I and DH are satisfied with our persent life . :imcool: -

This is a very subjective question. Then how do you conclude that a doctor who saved numerous lives, doesn’t have the last laugh?
