If ACSI is really my son’s choice , then I would put O level at first choice at at AL7. Even with that , there’s still a risk that the cut off might move unfavourably to take balloting risk . Why take an even riskier position of trying for IP at AL7? You might really end up with nothing .

The O level boys can take test for transfer to IP at end of sec 2. Your son can work towards that .[/quote]
May I know if this test is open to all schools for transfer or only for ACS students?

      Thank you

        If this news is true,

2023 Year 3 SIP students will be the last batch

School may reduce number of DSA applicants for non academic areas or
increase the COP for all DSA applicants

Since almost all NYGH students will move to HCI for their Year 5 & 6,
applying HCI (JC) from O level route could be tougher since less seats are available

        Just my thoughts ~
One point to note is that in T-score era, the cop of NY affliated is 250 including HCL bonus. That means, those with 247+3, 248+2 and 249+1 will be eligible as well. Even so, t-score of pure 250 is not equivalent to AL8. In general AL8 is better than 250. Hence, in my view, the COP has become stricter. Hence more places are open to non-affliated. I dont think we can conclude that applying to HCI after O level would be tougher based on the above.

The sec 3 entry application to ACSI IB and MGS IB is open to all. Shortlisted applicants will go through test and interview. Based on the sharing by other parents and ib curriculum developer in the past, the chances for boys getting a place in ACSI is higher than a girl in MGS. And also there is SJI IB available which only take in boys at sec 3.

There is also getting in after O levels. The COP is net 5 for ACSI and net 7 for SJI which accept both girls and boys. In my opinion it is easier to get in through O levels, esp for girls. Getting raw 8 and minus 4 is not too difficult for girls who are already getting good results from sec 1 to 4. AL8 students are eligible to take HMT if MT is not too shabby. Actually, getting raw 8 minus 4 can also meet COP of HCI and RI. But balloting is expected.

              Hello parents,
DS' school of choice is ACS Indep. He scored AL7 for which we are grateful.
Dilemma is whether he should try for
              - First choice - ACSI IB which had balloting last year at AL7 (from what we read in this platform)
              - Second choice - ACSI SEC which had balloting last year at AL8 (again based on what we read here)

He is afraid if the cut-off for both IB and SEC is each reduced by 1 point (+balloting), he may not get either as he has placed ACSI SEC as his second choice. As parent, I would like him to try for IB but i don't want to cost him his chance to be admitted to his school of choice.

I am even thinking of putting SJI IB as third choice (cut off last year was AL8), but that might be risky too.

Any views would be much appreciated!

Haha, school choices are just as stressful or i am overthinking it.
It is really a tough decision to make. I would ask myself the following.

If ACSI IB COP really happen to remain at AL7, would I regret not putting it as first choice. Would others with AL7 also think the same that ACSI cop will become AL7 or many would still put ACSI IB as first choice?

Based on cohort numbers in past years, refer to: https://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2123132#p2123132

Enrolment In Government And Government-Aided Primary Schools By Level And Age:
              2015 P1 40,063 - P6 in 2020
              2016 P1 38,904 - P6 in 2021
              2017 P1 36,885 - P6 in 2022 (tiger year)
              2018 P1 37,671 - P6 in 2023

There is no absolute increase in cohort size (which affects competition for fewer places if cohort size is larger). The general sense is that the top IP COPs didnt change last year so hence it is not expected to change this year too. But those who are eyeing on IBs is a subset of the cohort and interest change year by year, so there is still a risk.

Would many with AL6 choose ACSI IB over RI and HCI? shifting pattern instead of absolute increase. I see that only those alr in the know abt IB will choose IB, those in AC or SJ. Most would still play safe to choose A levels. My guess is as good as everyone else.

It also depends on citizenship. Many non sg citizens are aware that they stand lower chance in balloting, hence they will choose schools which have past COP+1.

Try asking IB guru \"autolycus\" who is online now at MGS sec thread, if you have any more questions.

                  Hi… My son’s PSLE score with AL8M.

May I know any recommendation for Dunman High School and River Valley High School.
                  Thanks a lot.

Both also good, really depends on which school your son like more imo..example DHS is sap which my gal will not like but student with strong Chinese language will like.

With AL8M, your son can also consider Cath High IP and list RVHS as his 3rd choice
