So good. Yeah... I guess I was pretty unlucky. I used used mine again the other day, this time I just let them keep the extra money of around $0.50. I guess it happens a lot of time. I wonder why they don't like the vouchers.
My experience is that the hawkers who sell dishes with round number prices (eg $3, $4 carrot cake/char kway teow) don’t mind so much. I always ask them first to gauge their reaction. They want the least infringement on their precious time. So i try to use when the price is exact. If i have to wait an extra minute for my customer to fish out extra coins to top up in a separate transaction, i would be unhappy too.

I also try to bless the stalls which arent having many customers. Those need not be round number price. I will press extra to give them like a tip. Eg $4.20 noodles i use $5 voucher and tell them yes i know no change given, just keep the extra for themselves. They are happy to chit chat cos no long Q of waiting customers to serve.

Those who turn down accepting the vouchers are usually old aunties who claim they “too old to learn how to use the scanner”. Old cranky uncles? I dont dare ask them lol.

I also don’t like to use the cdc vouchers. Many hawkers are not happy to use it (some even told me it’s so late Liao then use and said they no longer accept or said laoban went home so no hp to accept the transaction) and most I went to around my neighbourhood don’t even carry the cdc voucher signs.

Don’t think many parents out there sign up for TLL tuition for all subjects bah.

Even if I don’t send my kids for tuition in all subjects, but I am a SAHM and I dish out assessment books to teach them myself, does that not constitute to another form of tuition or enrichment?

Have you not come across any Singaporean kids who enjoy FULL childhood without any tuition since day 1? I have seen one such case. My cousin truly believes that kids should enjoy their childhood. Her house is full of toys and candies and she still pats her (teenage) kids to sleep every night!!

Both her kids are currently in sec sch and only interested in gummies, candies, playing toys /watch YouTube videos. I am not sure if niece/nephew can even graduate even if sent to overseas Uni because they aren’t ambitious, hate books plus values of delayed gratification, hard work, discipline and perseverance were not instilled in them since young.
Full childhood does not mean no parenting. Parenting is for ensuring the child learning the basic discipline, know right from wrong, social norm and good character building.

So full childhood does not mearn only whole day toys and youtube.

Yes, I have a few around me. Not applicable to your children though.

One relative decided from day 1, gave 3 children freedom to become who they want to be and within own means. To me is good enough in Sg terms to be full childhood but with parenting ways.

All three did poly. Eg. youngest did private uni in sg (overseas based), then internship at SGH and alr got job offer by SGH before graduation (only last year). No, it was not nursing or healthcare, but she did business planning/mangement related to healthcare. All three grad from pri uni and are working and one even has own family. Was told the extra fees are comparable to what parents nowadays are paying for tuition. the youngest even grad earlier than her batch from A level route to local uni.

Another case, parent was from poly to pri uni. hence from day 1 already decided no need to chase the paper like others. Alr planned for her 3 kids to do pri uni after poly. But one managed to do better and doing A level in JC. The youngest still in sec, can choose either.

Just sharing. PArents can do the math and calculate how much they have spent and going to spend on tuition for the child's whole journey. I do not object if child go tuition for the right reasons. For example, sch teacher keep changing or assigned temp teacher is lousy, child asked for tuition/help. By all means, as parents if we can, provide and support as much as we think we should, there is no sin in seeking help/tuition. We just have to ensure that child will not become impaired if over-reliant on tuition. because tuition providers are mostly not trained in pedagogy and child psychology. Children may be learning the wrong ways of learning and still arrive at the correct answers.

It’s fine when a kid is willing and happy to go for tuitions and the parents can afford. The issues is

when a kid doesn’t want to go tuitions but the parents force him/her to go. Why not to let the kid have a say?
