I am not sure should that even considered as “freedom of choice”? Precisely to avoid such lack of options, parents invest heavily on their children’s education.

Many love their HDB abodes but would move to stay in a GCB if given the choice. That to me, is not considered “freedom of choice” because many cannot afford to live in GCB in the first place and learn to love their HDB.
I’m not sure if I want GCB afterall. We’re only a small dot, unlike big countries with plenty of space.

It won’t be easy maintaining a big home to make life comfortable hor myself & to maintain a well manicured garden, tho lots of space for my gardening based on ratio of GCB plot. Wld love to hv a GR for it to run the grounds too! I loath the day I’ve to train my helpers to clean, upkeep, and keep in hospitable condition for guests. Hv to engage contract gardeners to trim & cut grass, main swimming pool, etc.

Maybe good for a short enjoyment but it can work against me as I grow old. Good for when u’re young & hv bz associates to entertain but will be too quiet for elderlies when u prefer peace & not the ra-rah-rah. GCB is not only the land affordability but the long-term maintenance of it.

So, a smaller place or condo is still good enuf with 24-hour security. I don’t enjoy having to drive out or walk far to get my daily needs or errands done. Having neighbors or security guards to meet & greet often enuf gives me a good sense of being in touch with real ppl. That’s how I feel.

Minus 3/5 degree with strong blowing wind almost cannot feel ears and nose. Once inside building and squeeze the face muscles, feel so different…like defrosting according to dd. Cannot imagine those people living like below minus 40degree.

Feel touched to have read some of the posts and also could feel many pros of utilizing tuitions for advancement. All different parenting. I have people around me to straight away ask what are you enrolling for the kids during holiday…2 tuition a subject etc. Sometimes we do feel some stress…look at it positively, it may help us to not let our kids fall too far behind … but sometimes when too stressed will feel confused of own ways.

We had some heart to heart talks while strolling…dd1 says she hopes able to do more things with us, with me being more relaxed about life so that in the future whether she is successful or poor she can always think back on those good memories created with daddy, mommy and sister. I have my own problem for many years and I know it is not fair for them. I have been changing and will try harder to change it.

Actually I feel that it is a blessing to be your children.

You and you hubby don’t seem to get angry over academic matters. And you always take the effort to bake bread to pack for your DDs to bring to school for recess. And all those small outings and picnics that you organize for your kids.

The bonding between you and your two girls is very strong. You have such a lovely family life!! Happy Holidays!

On the issue of tuition, most of my girl classmates have tuition, especially Chinese. As parents we may provide if we feel it benefits and can afford.

No right or wrong. Some choose to buy a car over taking public transport.

I also know kids with no tuition. Parents choice. No right or wrong. Parents happy with their results. Feel no need to push. They feel life is more than just academic results. Really a matter of personal choice. Different parenting style.

As long willing to work, can survive. Just that lesser life choices…

I guess how everyone sees gifts, is different, esp for our own children.

Do we give fish to our children whenever they are hungry for their whole lives or are we doing more harm by doing that? PRoviding full expensive tuition to our own children is the way to show our love?? So can parents continue to provide tuition to their kids when they start working since they may need help to get through competition to be promoted? Would children impair their learning abilities if they are always receiving help from tuition? Well I guess, the millioin dollar question is when to stop if we give but will eventually stop. It still takes some wisdom and knowledge to ensure that children will grow up with the correct values; how they value themselves and have faith in their own abilities and not let some numbers to define who they are.

Whether we should instead give them a fishing rod and through own life experiences teach them how to fish, there is no right or wrong. This I agree.
