On the issue of tuition, most of my girl classmates have tuition, especially Chinese. As parents we may provide if we feel it benefits and can afford.

No right or wrong. Some choose to buy a car over taking public transport.

I also know kids with no tuition. Parents choice. No right or wrong. Parents happy with their results. Feel no need to push. They feel life is more than just academic results. Really a matter of personal choice. Different parenting style.

As long willing to work, can survive. Just that lesser life choices…

I guess how everyone sees gifts, is different, esp for our own children.

Do we give fish to our children whenever they are hungry for their whole lives or are we doing more harm by doing that? PRoviding full expensive tuition to our own children is the way to show our love?? So can parents continue to provide tuition to their kids when they start working since they may need help to get through competition to be promoted? Would children impair their learning abilities if they are always receiving help from tuition? Well I guess, the millioin dollar question is when to stop if we give but will eventually stop. It still takes some wisdom and knowledge to ensure that children will grow up with the correct values; how they value themselves and have faith in their own abilities and not let some numbers to define who they are.

Whether we should instead give them a fishing rod and through own life experiences teach them how to fish, there is no right or wrong. This I agree.

Speaking of that “fish” saying…recently DS showed me a macabre meme variation on it (we both had a good laugh at it): give a man a fish, u feed him for a day; give a man a poisoned fish, u feed him for a lifetime :siam:

Oh dear! What a macabre meme! Can put us off gifts of fish forever!

I think it has something to do with hoping to get into RVHS? As we know, IP is for the top 10% of the P6 cohort. So in order to be in the top 10%, parents can either choose to provide expensive quality tuition, or teach themselves.

If since day one, parents/kids ok to go Poly followed by private Uni like Kaplan, and will not be fighting for a place in local universities, to me this is exiting from our local educational rat race early. Stress level will be reduced drastically.

For P6 students not aiming to go IP, stress level will also be reduced.

Similarly, at A levels, for students not aiming to get into any of the coveted courses, like Law or Med, the stress level is lower

Tuition or not, every case is unique because all of us are looking at different things!

I think there’s nothing wrong with having tuition. Friends’ kids who have received PSC scholarships or accepted into NUS med, all received tuition before.

Providing full expensive tuition for own child is of cos, one way of showing parental love lah.
I sent my kids to TLL English from K2 to P6. I calculated that for every term I don’t send them, I can afford to buy a LV bag. 3 years don’t send them to TLL, I can buy myself a Hermes bag! 😂 I love my branded bags and there’s an opportunity cost that I incur when I send my kids for tuition but I am willing to suffer the opportunity cost.

Do you know that for kids who used sports to DSA into top schools, some parents engage more than 1 external coach to train them. W/o external help, it is not easy to compete at national level.

As for working adults, I understand that career coaching is an accepted practice, especially among the C-suite. In this case, parents don’t need to send their working kids for tuition, their companies will gladly do so especially when they are at the apex ranks.

It’s normal to seek help when one is found lacking in any area.

Mine was in the confirmed affected tank. Just trying to find the other parents. Based on my experience in the lab, should be all around the same birth month/year (depending on tank size).

They said Cordlife’s stock price dropped like 40% after the discovered leak. Wow.
