Nowadays, a lot of nurses quit health care bec of the long working hours and also bec of the frequent jab they need to take
Not easy. When covid just happened and we have so little knowledge abt it..these groups of people need to fight in the front line. The worries of their loved ones etc.. really not easy.

My thoughts are swaying now..I think I will keep telling dd to rethink about it. I told her we have collectively failed multiple times already. Will try to point to what other things she also want. I will not force but will try to influence. Asked dd1 to try talk to her also.
Stop here....no more impose your worry on her......Just let her to go for her dream.... don't ask A or B to talk to her since she is so determine and crying for it. 不要把她迫疯了.

If it was me, I would give it to my child. After all, it’s her childhood and even if you make her take up a non-committal cca, does it guarantee she would spend the extra time wisely? If no, you might as well let her go with her passion and who knows, it might be a viable career (or sideline) next time.
Leeyl- my girl also auditioned for photography but in the end chose smthg else as dates clash w third language. She loves photography too and was in charge of media/videography during her Sch Sch perf arts cca. Now in the current cca, she is doing photography/pubs in her exco role.
I don't think it can be side career next time. Just now I suggested to her learn piano better..next time can be part time piano teacher if need to care for her kids cannot work full time. Told her also got chance to take 3 sci if she could study properly coz those are what she would like to have too.

Not forcing. Sometimes need to have some guidance. Adults also need guidance.

DS’ school held their cca trials/auditions during the regular CCA timings, ie after school, on the relevant weekdays. He signed up for total of 5 trials: 4 weekday trials (after school) and 1 weekend (morning) trial. I purposely refused to pick him up from school after those trials, just so that he could have the full experience of his energy level, carrying the schoolbag + equipment, squeezing on the crowded bus with the office workers going home.

After trying out all, he himself concluded, he preferred to pick the Sat early morning cca cos he dun mind waking up early for that compared to soooo tired in the evening after a long day.

dd2 esp. is the one wants to walk home, try not to ‘disturb’ me whenever I need to make trips just to pick her up. I always need to tell her I m really ok to make the trips. Sometimes I do think it is not very good to complain in front of them eg. say I m tired etc coz they may take it seriously…and ended up I don’t get to hear their ‘exact’ problems. Everything also ok one.

MKS, i can understand the kids tend to open up and talk more with us during the car ride. But it is not necessarily the only way. Eg u can modify to taking an easy stroll (or other activity like washing the car; washing dishes) after dinner, maybe they will also be inclined to chitchat with us that way.

We have never had a car to drive the kids to and from school! I didn't even accompany them to school most of the time. So I also agree that driving is not necessary to have conversations with kids, and your drives are very short anyway. In my family, the good conversations happened either over meals, or after our family devotions (we are Christians) every evening. These were daily when they were younger, and reduced in frequency as they got older, but we still managed 3-4 times a week even when they were doing A levels. You can try to create some schedule for such opportunities too.

The other thing is to ask questions that they can't answer by saying yes/no/fine/ok! I got a good deal of that when they were teenagers, and my older girl still gives me those if I don't phrase my questions properly. So ask questions like \"What did you do during xxx lesson today?\", \"Who did you talk to during recess today?\" etc.

The 2 confide in each other alot more now. Whenever I say a little bit more to one of them. The other will say mommy don’t worry, she knows one…她知道的啦…so I can stop my nag…they help each other… before covid both will argue and the younger one will come near me with her lips pout say jiejie lor. Now is different. Sometimes I do find I need to guess.
