https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/giant-to-absorb-gst-hike-for-700-essential-products-from-january-to-june-2024
Giant will join a few supermarket chains that are absorbing the goods and services tax (GST) increase in 2024.

From January to June 2024, the supermarket chain will absorb the 1 percentage point GST increase on 700 essential products across key categories such as fresh produce, personal care and household essentials.

DFI Retail Group, which manages Giant, announced the move on Dec 26 and said it is to help Singaporeans mitigate the effects of inflation and the rising cost of living.

The 700 discounted products were selected based on customer feedback and data to ensure maximum value for Giant customers, DFI Retail Group said.

Giant will also offer a 4 per cent storewide discount every Tuesday for senior citizens, to further alleviate the rising cost of living. This discount would apply throughout 2024.
FairPrice Group will absorb the 1 percentage point increase in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) on 500 essential items for the first six months of 2024.

The basket of 500 essential items includes household essentials that are most in need and purchased by customers frequently
, said FairPrice Group on Monday (Nov 27).

They comprise groceries such as fresh fruits, vegetables and meat, staples, dairy, paper products, detergents and household cleaners.

The initiative will apply across all FairPrice supermarket outlets and online.
https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/sheng-siong-storewide-discount-3991596
Supermarket chain Sheng Siong will roll out a three-month counter-inflation discount in 2024 on most of its items to offset the additional increase in Goods and Services Tax (GST).

A 1 per cent discount will be applied to in-store purchases from January to March 2024
to help consumers alleviate the effects of rising prices, Sheng Siong announced on Friday (Dec 15).

However, some items are excluded from the discount.

They include infant formula (Stages 1 & 2), tobacco, alcohol, medicinal products and the disposable carrier bag charge.

"The FairPrice Group (FPG) will give out $8 in return vouchers for every $80 worth of CDC supermarket vouchers used in a single transaction at FairPrice outlets until Jan 17."

Last year, it was a $6 return voucher for every $55 CDC supermarket vouchers spent. I did chiong to buy stuff to get the return voucher.

This year, am unsure if I would do the same bec everything is so expensive now.

MIL still prefers prints. I go for the download, as I find it convenient. I’ll let her use my app voucher & feel the convenience, but I suspect she’ll be still comfortable with hardcopies she can feel & count.
