Havent spent at hawker centres either cos the stalls i went to didnt accept.[/quote]
I’m surprised after 2-3 rounds of national promotion on CDC usage, some hawkers opt not to accept them.

I noticed many elderlies do not cook but eat out almost every meals. It’ll help these elderlies to feel less pressures fr raising prices.

I rmbr encountering an old lady who Q at POSB when I was there with my helper. I led her to the staff whom I know wld give priority to old folks but she was very paiseh says she’ll Q coz she’s only drawing enuf for the day’s meal at hawker centre. If she hv CDC vouchers, she wld not hv to join long Qs or fear loosing their cash.

I agree with you about the cookies, but maybe CKS can use that as part of a CNY gift to someone he normally gives a gift to. As long as the person isn't on KSP, they won't know!

For the toilet paper example, if they are the usual brand that would be purchased sooner or later anyway, and there's space in the home, I would look at it as beating inflation! I read/hear accounts about people saving their CDC vouchers for later, or spending them gradually over the year - if prices keep rising, $10 will buy less by the end of the year. That's one of the reasons my family uses up the vouchers early - we won't purposely spend on things just to use up the vouchers, but whenever we buy things at supermarkets/hawker centres/neighbourhood shops, we will use the vouchers if we can.

I think the government shouldn't have given $500 all at once, and they should have a word with the supermarkets about their promotions. These make people spend more at once, and probably less wisely. They could have held back the additional $200 for another couple of months.
I’ve the same view that so long u’re using the CDC Vouchers for yr necessities, it’s one way to beat inflation if one does not buy excessively to hoard to the point of disuse or expiry. I normally get 2 pkts of rice & when I start a last pkt, I’ll put the item in my next shopping list. If there’s promotion, I wld get at most ano pkt.

On the point to hv govt delay issuance of the total CDC vouchers, to me it’s just unnecessary to micro-manage & it seems to contradict yr earlier point to fight raising costs. Let ppl managed their benefits for their best interests wld be nice.

The qn is whether the promo of supermarkets is to help us or just to boost sales.

Yes, I know it seems contradictory, but we have to accept that not everyone can spend wisely or control their spending when they have \"extra\" money in their hands. I think spacing out the vouchers into 2 tranches is a middle path between extreme micro-managing (daily handouts) and making the assumption that everyone knows how to budget and spend wisely.

They are all profit-maximising entities. Need I say more?

That's very nice of you. My eldest sister had a stroke and is now bedridden and has intubation to the stomach as she cannot swallow. She cannot talk or communicate since that stroke. I visit her at the hospice twice every week for the past seven months. It was very eye opening to see the other patients there. I talked regularly to one of the patients there who was very well spoken and lucid (although she has dementia and pretty much repeat herself half the time).

I used to visit my bro when he had Parkinson & my aged SIL cldn’t care for him. Whenever I’m there, I’ll keep him moving & exercise him on those machines at the home. Keep his brain muscles strong & remind him to coordinate.

Aiya! Come to think of it, nowadays I repeat myself quite often leh! Dementia hitting soon liao. 😬

That is why I keep on playing boardgames since 6 years ago. Just learn 2 new games today, need to remember the rules of the games, thinking how to win over.....for some games, we need to remember some actions by other players and strategies out what action we have to take. Those keep on talking and surfing handphone can never win a games. :nailbite:

I just placed a $90 order with Fairprice online - can’t use the CDC vouchers for that. I reckon that driving, parking, and the hassle of carrying all those heavy items is just not worth the $8 voucher. I’ll spend my supermarket vouchers in smaller amounts at SS when I go there twice a week.
