There are probably quite a few which can use the SGQR. My kids use PayLah since their account is DBS. But not all stalls accept cashless payments, and some only accept certain ones. I think your daughters should still carry some cash.
For cashless transactions at hawker ctr, only Paylah & CDCV? -
The kids either hv YouTrip or TRUST Cards. TRUST card offers some cash back.
Personally, I’ve dumped my Revolut card last year coz it’s not competitive when use overseas in a Sunday. Apparently, they don’t hv live exch rates on Sunday, so they charge a higher rate. We decided not to be caught in a situation when we travel & forget it’s a Sunday & pay for food or shopping. Parts of Europe can get very expensive & not worth if rates Jack up our spending. -

Yap. Back then i hv a colleague who travels lots & gave her son a CC. All he’ll let loose & he spent like nobody’s bz buying items to sell encash so he feed his habits. Ex-colleague didn’t know coz too busy with her life & monthly pymtvis auto, only to discover one day when she bother to actually look into her acct & shocked to trace the large sum deducted for son’s CC card! So I’ll nvr give kids any CC till they apply on their own earnings. For now it’s just DC.
My DS prefers to use cash in school canteen. The debit card is for his lunch outside with friends. Sometimes he uses Grab pay app (where available, like McD or Burger King), but if HP no battery then he uses this R physical debit card.
Credit card will be very dangerous in the hands of teenagers lol…especially if they decide to use it for online shopping…[/quote] -

I like Trust card too. My kids don't have it, but I do! I applied for the Trust debit card, and use it to collect Linkpoints (Fairprice/Unity) and also as my MRT card. We also found that the exchange rate when using it overseas is good - better than Youtrip according to my husband, and certainly better than my credit cards from other banks.

Revolut charges admin fee for usage on weekends. While we were in Europe in November, we bought swiss franc and Euro on our revolut and youtrip card to sort of hedge our currency exposure. Back then there was a cap of S$5K per card but they recently lifted the limit on youtrip. For those paid using local currency (euro/ sfr) in our wallet, there is no fee for weekends. Nowadays, our preference is to buy local currency in the card prior to the trip unfortunately there are some currencies that cannot be bought (eg. ringgit or taiwan dollar)

Personally prefer this mode vs changing cash though i think some cash is still required just in case.
My dd just returned from 5 months exchange in Spain and she leveraged her youtrip and revolut for her expenses. -

At the point of card usage but not sure if they Syn SG timezone or overseas. On Sundays they don’t hv a working exch rate & hence charge you for admin handling charges & a higher rate.

To avoid my forgetfulness, I dump using the Revolut card when overseas. I just want less complications & enjoy my time rather than worry at back of my mind.
YouTrip has been our go-to card for a long time. They don’t charge handling fees & rates are usually good almost any overseas location we go to. I’ve found TRUST card as ano alternative, tho i didn’t use during our Europe trip. The best & comforting thing is we can do immediate transfers fr our bank acct into YouTrip card to pay any big ticket item w/o depositing too much into the card. After pymt, we log/lock out the YouTrip card. This way we don’t worry abt it being cloned, misused for double deduction or further deduction.
DS uses TRUST debit card for cash back benefit. -

The former has some limitations as it has only 8 foreign currencies.
I dont hv Revolut card. -

No minimum spend or annual fee. Can't remember if there was a minimum balance for the bank account, but I think there's no requirement if it's a child's account.
You should definitely start a monthly allowance system for your daughters. They will not be able to learn budgeting if they don't practise. If you pay their allowance into their bank accounts, you can set an automatic transfer from your bank account to theirs, so you won't need to remember each month.
I agreed with slmkhoo.
You can start with your girls when they are in Sec 1 by giving a weekly allowance. If they finish all $$ on Mon, then starve for the rest of the week
This is the best time for them to learn about budgeting etc.
