Doing the patching with putty is not difficult. Not really hard labour.

Painting the walls used to be a breeze which I do within 2 days & 2nd coating easier. Now, I split into doing 1 side per day, so it’s easier. If i start fr the top on ladder, take it easy & complete the top, those shoulder & waist height strokes are much easier. Prep work is impt. I lay plastic sheets on the grounds & tape all the sides & corners so I don’t hv to worry abt not painting a straight neat line.

Can finish if u look at the sense of achievement & how a fresh coat in yr home makes u feel clean. I’m abit sensitive to dusts around the house.
I've never painted an entire wall! I prefer to pay someone to do it.

me too! a lot of prep work needed. The recommendation is to have a coat of sealant, before the paint goes on.

all I can manage is moving the furniture so that the painters can paint! haha.

I’m like one of my British aunt. Somehow, painting for fresh feel is not daunting.

Every year she comes over at least 2-3 mths before CNY, she’ll paint her son’s bungalow room by room. One year, she completed all rooms inside the house, she then went outdoors climb to different parts to give the house a complete brush & all toast to her big job done for our celebration with her in SG. She appreciates the family bonding in Asia once a year but she left this legacy of fearless hardwork.

So far, I’ve painted entire at least 3 times in my lifetime. This time, it’s only the living room. I don’t think I’ll ever paint any walls after this year.

Yes. Typically, will always clean the walls 2 rounds, scrap off any uneven surfaces, cracks, etc before patching then sealant & paint. This year, no choice due to small job & I’ve skipped alr the usual & just paint as we’re taking back one apartment after tenancy ends. Yes, will let the ID do all the full works incl painting works.

No choice coz the contractor cld hv done a bad job or whether or age causes flakes. Not easy to get contractors to do small jobs now. So mobilize my young man along. Age caught up alr. I can’t do much painting like i used to before i went overseas to study. Can even do ceiling back then.
Wah... now I'm inspired to paint my bathroom ceiling by myself!

              I believe I can... I believe I can... (psychoing myself 🙏 )

Ceiling is not easy. But you can de la, slowly lor. Careful of height. Dont overstretch yourself. I did that more than 10years ago and I will try not to do it again. Let it stay white, no color is ok.

When painting ceiling of bathroom, u’ve to ensure there are no seapage fr yr upstairs bathroom which shld hv screed & waterproofing done properly. I normally wash the surfaces & sealant applied before putting in coats. If there are mold, best treat that first before new paints shld even be put in.

Chief, pls do layers on different days to rest yr neck. If u can avoid, best let someone younger do it. Not worth straining yourself & let yr orthopedic doc dig into yr piggy bank. I only took on this round of painting coz it’s too small a job to find paid labour. I only did the walls & in stages, partly to rest well before next effort & for it to dry well before ano coat. Like MKS cautioned, “ Dont overstretch yourself.”

                    Hats off to you Esteema.

No way we will paint our own walls or ceilings. We will need to find a taller ladder to reach the top of our walls and ceiling.

Just told Dh we have to find time to clean our windows. All the algae and all on the outside of the pane and sill. Will be using pressure jet to wash those off.

I have a pressure washer at home and even though it is a low-end low-power one, one must be really really careful not to accidentally slice off your own fingers or toes!! Super satisfying to see the mould and grime blasted off the walls though.

Sounds dangerous! So you will need to wear protective gear as well? I think I'd live with the grime till I can get someone else to do it! Thankfully I live too high up to consider doing anything on the outside (I don't do much on the inside either).
