happy1234:
any idea how are the teachers at east coast compared to the ones at bencoolen? i stay near east coast so makes more sense to go there but don't mind going to bencoolen if the teachers there are better.
Hi all,
I would also like to know if classes at East Coast are as good as Bencoolen.
Planning to move my son to East Coast classes.
Thanks. -

Correct, put name on waitlist up to 1 year in advance. Come Nov - NAFA will send u letter informing date of registration for the following Jan. Registration is in Dec if I rem correctly. Purchase of art materials/tools also in Dec.
Queue starts at 3am, but regardless of time of your arrival, everyone with a letter of invitation WILL be guaranteed a slot. They already calculated before inviting u. The question is whether u can get your preferred timing, hence the kiasu ones will camp there from 3am. -
Hi jetsetter
Thanks u very much for your information, so that I can prepare myself !!!
Any parents are gg to register this yrs? Can share or we can go together  so that not so boring :xedfingers: -
hi, i actually read the nafa website, saying that they register abt 1200 on waitlist, for abt 800 slots… so not everybody who gets letter can get a slot right?
Anyway, just wondering if any existing parents can share which tend to be the popular slots? To extent possible, we would like to exclude the popular slots in our planning to avoid dissappointment… but not sure which are the slots that tend to have more spaces… -
You get letter, you show up, you pay on the spot, you get it. You don’t get letter, you won’t even get the chance to be disappointed…That is to say, once u hv the letter, you will 100% get a slot. It’s whether u want to go register or not only.
The popular slots are of course the weekend slots, esp mornings (9.15am/9.30am or 10.45am). And Bencoolen is more popular than East Coast.
Fri slots are not as popular at Bencoolen, cos of ERP and parking rates can be as high as $6+ for 1+hr.
Believe there are no Mon-Thurs slots at Bencoolen but there are several at East Coast.
Btw, I don’t think it works the way u envisage…it goes by first-come-first served basis, meaning u queue at 3-4am, u get to choose any slot u like in either centre.
Even if u hv shortlisted ‘unpopular’ slots (in your opinion), it might be taken up by the time it’s your turn to register, because ‘unpopular’ is subjective…
Parents go early to queue for a myriad of reasons, NOT because they are scared they got no slot!
They need to deconflict with child’s other enrichment timings, factoring in lunch time/travel time from centre to centre; siblings’ enrichment timings on same day; Sunday church service; school day or CCA ends at what time, etc.
So what is deemed ‘unpopular’ to you could well be in demand in your year of registration.
Also, in the registration hall, several big plasma tvs will concurrently display REAL-TIME place balances per slot. So even if you’re armed with a list of ‘unpopular’ timings, they could be snapped up by the time it’s your time to pick.
You need to eyeball the screen like a stock exchange punter and strike off slots that are no longer available when your queue no. is displayed and called over the PA system.
Why? Cos about 6-8 counters are serving parents concurrently, so parent at Counter 1 might hv taken away your last preferred slot in the system, before u’ve even uttered a word to the staff serving you at Counter 8.
If no other enrichments to deconflict, please just strut in at 9am:) For so long as you’ve the NAFA letter in your hand, you’ll be absolutely walk away with a slot, good or bad is secondary.
SOTA has junior art classes too. No need to rush la…Good luck! -
Hi jet setter… Thank you for the prompt response and detailed explanation.

no stress lah if you are not eyeing on the popular timing. If you can do Friday evenings, chances are you will get it.
Last year, I reached NAFA for registering at 7.30am and I did get a shock to know the first parent arrived at 3am!! But luckily the timing I wanted was not considered a popular slot hence I got it easily even though I was the number 100 over parents in the line.
