Take a leaf from the very brave OVA? :salute:

      Good luck!

This one not quite the same lah... The IP was still at the proposal stage. Hence, OVA still got chance to raise voice and make noise. Besides, VJC proposal was really stupid to begin with.

On the other hand, the merger is signed, stamped, endorsed and confirmed. Scope for negotiation is limited. If not them, another JC will get the axe. Better choose those JCs (Gov) that are easy meat compared to those with strong stakeholders (Gov aided).

Moral of the story: choose a school with strong backing or powerful stakeholders (gov aided) for your kids if these are the concerns.

They didn't engage any stakeholders this time. Like corporate mergers, it was swift.

Looks like no words can console those affected kids and parents.

But can't parents, students and alumni have a say in the rebranding exercise?

actually is it very wrong to suggest EJC to occupy the IJC current campus? Save cost mah.....IJC is very new and huge and nice too....

No. This is actually a valid point as raised by some others also. Why spent millions when there will be 4 campuses readily available.

In the gov.sg FAQ somewhere...read it, buy it or leave it.

Case of poor timing if you asked me.

Well, IJC parents may jump! No...methinks YJC should vacate and occupy IJC's beautiful premises but MOE says the older YJC is geographically more accessible.

It's too late. Did you see EJC hoarding was already up and piling had commenced since last year? The architect was commissioned, blueprint and budget approved donkey years ago, only to be delayed by construction of MRT tracks and soil conditions in 2015.

It was before Min Ng took office and decided to abandon so many campuses. Too late...too late...

Can some MP ask him in the next sitting what those vacant campuses are going to be used for? πŸ˜“

Jetty , your kids in EJC? This is so hilarious :rotflmao:

This reminds me of the 9pm drama now showing on Ch 8 where the wife (Paige) kept insisting that the husband (Thomas Ong) say \"sorry\" for most inconsequential stuff.
      Of course not.
      You watch Ch 8?!

She can demand till cows come home, or till her private pool at her backyard dries up.

i cannot quiz about their inertia and radio silence meh?

If my alma mater is merged or shut down, I will certainly jump and write in to Minister to protest.

i remember a small mall in Potong Pasir marketed itself as St Andrew's Mall. SASA immediately protested and demanded the developer to re-register a name.

That's the diff between proactive and passive alumni. I doubt after griping here and there, they will engage MOE. You need absolute unity for this sort of thing.

Oh yes Jetsetter, our private pool in the backyard hasn't been touched for months. DS in NS, you see. If you apologise, I will consider inviting your kid and her EJC friends over for some enjoyment. Someone lamented that EJC don't even have a pool like RI's.

That's too bad. RIJC has one, I know πŸ˜‰

Great! So glad my post has drawn vocal folks from one of the merged JCs out from their dens!

What are you waiting for? Rally your alumni, past and present Ps and VPs, Exec Advisory Committee and BOD, parents, current students to start a petition and fight for IJC's brand to be retained.

Why should I apologise? I'm offering you guys a suggestion, which is to fight for your alma mater.

So this is how an EJC parent behaves? I am speechless.

Your kid is suffering in the old RJC campus and you are feeling very sore and also worried that the 'ivory tower', as someone put it, may disappear from EJC too? EJC parents don't have the means to provide their kids with nice environment so die die must rely on school campus to give them that small piece of luxury is it? Pathetic yah?
You guys still didn't get SJI (Independent) holding premises after all the dogfights, did you? Why suggest the same ineffective formula to us? You better look elsewhere for new inspirations.

There's a much easier way to fight for our rights. We are taking the calm and patient path. πŸ˜‰

      Still owe us an apology....

You should post that in EJC thread. It's not my alma mater (edited)

No apology from me. Only heartfelt sympathies for you guys... πŸ˜„

Actually, your tone don't have to be so condescending.

We all know petitioning work. Afterall, the former unnamed IPJC (EJC) holding location at Mt Sinai was changed to Mt Sinai after listening to parents' feedback. On a slightly unrelated topic, I also heard that the increase in water charges was reduced from 30% to 30% after the huge uproar.

If the powers that be are interested in feedback, they would have asked or consulted prior to any announcements. It's a done deal. Live with it (and vote wisely :rotflmao: ).

Actually, why bother speaking up when the decision is made. The best to show your displeasure is at the ballot box πŸ˜‰

The Ministry has already set out the rationale why these schools are chosen:
MOE had studied the different potential merger partners carefully. In considering the compatibility of merger partners, we generally prefer to pair Government schools. The mergers would be far more complex and challenging if we paired a Government school with a Government-Aided school, as their legal and governance structures are different and difficult to integrate.

      ....

Integrated Programme (IP) JCs and non-IP JCs are not compatible merger partners because they offer different programmes to suit their students’ needs. On the other hand, we found that we could retain a reasonably good geographical distribution by merging the existing eight Government JCs.
In short, merging other schools will cause enough more displeasure. The 8 schools have a smaller number of stakeholders to deal with whereas the other schools have feeder schools, clan associations or religious organizations to deal with. MOE just isn't prepared to start a fight on so many fronts.
I remember vividly 2 years ago, an EJC parent used the classic phrase εƒζ»ηŒ«. I'm puzzled why the affected schools' alumni and students are so silent. Maybe they have aired their grievances elsewhere in EDMW and FB confessions pages.

It's still quite saddening isn't it? Did you click on the Channel 8 link I posted? The video played ι‚‚ι€… by 巫启贀... JJC was the cradle of Xinyao and it's not a new JC you know...I'm not from JJC but I've friends from JJC. Feel sorry for them.

As for alumni like that luvpsalm, I reckon she's an undergrad or young employee as IJC is very young. Have they started to engage MOE, like JJCA, on how to preserve their college identity? Any impact on future job search and scholarship applications? AJC's standing is quite high in the market.
