yes much cheaper , importantly is a very good exposure, experience to the student for 6mths duration, i think 3 mths maybe too short. worth to go.

Colleague’s daughter went to NUS Biz initially but did not like the environment as everyone was kind of kind forced to speak up actively in class. Don’t think she is too much of an introvert as she was the chair of interact club and applied for many internships actively.
After 1 year she took a test and switched to some data science course even with no computing background and enjoyed it a lot more. Graduating soon… -

This is one advantage of choosing NUS over SMU. NUS is a full uni for both science and non science degree. Smu has no science degree or modules. It was mentioned in uni talk. One can choose business and still take minor in science in NUS. but I wonder how many students do that.
Those who are pursuing further degree or research locally or overseas, from what I gathered, NUS and NTU would be more suitable.
Current students shared, NTU curriculum has more room to explore own passion. Not sure what that means exactly. Was told NUS has seminar style learning incorporated now, with traditional lecture tutorial style.
Any idea what style of learning is adopted in the US and Europe? More online, prerecorded lectures?
Can do local 1st degree and do overseas masters or further, another option. It was mentioned at uni talk. Kids will be more mature and ready by then. Go overseas at 18yo, may end up return with overseas partner. Depends on own means and aspirations. -

You can consider attending international summer school... Gives you an opportunity to check out the country, school, student life, and subject you are interested in. Learn to be independent. They have this in the States, UK, China, Japan etc. Harvard, Stanford, Yale, Berekley, Oxbridge, 北大, Tokyo Uni etc.
Some will take anyone from 13 - 18.
... may be the only realistic hope for bragging rights that you attended Harvard at 16

Being introvert and being able to do class participation- I think is trainable. When grades are involved, everyone will automatically speak up, whether you like it or not. For business courses, I feel like being more articulate and being able to bring ideas across, is very important.
I too thought it would be good training to send my introvert daughter to SMU Biz to be more outspoken which is a good life skill to have. However, when my friend told me it may backfire and she might not enjoy her 4yrs there, I panicked. Even my neighbor said DD1 is not suitable for SMU Biz. Neighbor described my DD1 as quiet, detailed person more like an accountant.
I did ask DD1 to describe her dream job. She said she would like to work in an office, look through charts/files/documents, etc. and do not want to be out to meet / talk to different clients on a regular basis. Therefore, after much discussion, we decide to give up smu biz.
Just last week she asked about SMU Biz again, I told her don’t talk about it, Uni application closed! -
My boss was a very senior legal professional before he went into business. Once i witnessed a business collaboration discussion between our company and a higher education institution in Spore. The higher education institution spoke at great length about how to collaborate. My boss listened attentively. When its his turn to respond, he started by uttering 5 words: “we’re blank piece of paper”. He then went on to elaborate little more, on how he is willing to listen to suggestions.
My boss style is man of relatively fewer words. His style of communication is concise and efficient. He focuses more on substances (core message) and not forms (smooth in delivery?)
what I want to say is introverts still can be effective in seminar style learning environment like the SMU’s in the long run. As long as the student has the perspective of keeping the focus on “substance” in mind and not to be distracted by other “forms” things, especially when it’s not in that student’s nature to behave that way. -

For one, she looked at her friends who applied for smu biz, they are mostly outgoing and chatty personalities. Good that she understands herself. I also switched to a much more backend job because of my personality. Doesn't mean I can't meet people and talk, but the job didn't require so much of that. Yes, progression is slower, but as long as they can hold a decent job, I don't think it's a big deal.

Ask her to rethink whether SMU Biz style of teaching is really suitable for her. Decision was firmed up after we visited the NUS/NTU/SMU open houses and asked lots of questions at the Biz and Econs booths.
In the end, how did you advise what is a suitable course based on her inclination/personality?
My daughter will go for Econs. Probably Econs to pair up with something else later on. Econs with Data Sc, Business Analytics or Quantitative Finance. These will come later
