CHS = College of Humanities and Sciences

DSE = Data Science and Economics - this is a direct-entry, crossdisciplinary degree offered by NUS CHS.
If I understand correctly, SMU Economics will be a Bachelor of Science, NUS' Economics and Data Science is Bachelor of Social Science. Will be Bachelor of Science if Data Science and Economics.

Also, as CHS is a common platform, may need to compete to get into choice course as opposed to SMU.

Am getting DS to re-assess his decision - seems can withdraw acceptance.

        For NTU, it will be

Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Economics

        Or

Bachelor of Science in Economics and Data Science

My sister did point out to us the different degree titles but we are not very familiar or mindful of the differences.

Just wondering: would the Bachelor of Science command more starting pay than the Bachelor of Social Science?

Somehow i think (unverified) in sg ppl still treat traditional Sciences as “‘more elite/having more substance” than the Social Sciences.

The NUS ‘major in’ got any significance?

NUS requirement is very good pass in H2 Maths.

NTU requirement is A pass in H2 Level Mathematics and A pass in H2 Level Physics/Chemistry/Biology/Computing

NUS-The 4-year Bachelor of Science (Honours) with Major in Data Science and Economics (DSE) Cross-Disciplinary Programme (XDP) is offered under the NUS College of Humanities and Sciences (CHS).

NTU- The newly launched Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Economics and Data Science programme combines expertise from 3 schools: School of Social Sciences (SSS), College of Computing and Data Science (CCDS), and School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences (SPMS).

DSE in NUS (joint programme offered by School of Science in CHS and School of Computing) requires A in H2 maths and Econs according to the talk I attended. The IGP cutoff is 85RP.

See these. Also, Econ may be more business/sciences than some of the other social sciences...

                    https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/politics/7-things-to-know-about-singapore-s-next-prime-minister-lawrence-wong

DMP Lawrence Wong did Economics in the US. His is Bachelor of Science. He subsequently did Master of Arts in applied Economics. Tharman also did Econs (in LSE) and his is also Bachelor of Science. OYK and CCS also did Econs, so it’s quite common to do Econs.

So why an Econs degree in NUS/NTU is a Bachelor Social Science? What is the main difference? Unless one does Econs with Data Science then it becomes B Sc. Does the title of the degree matter?
