      >> He will only get a choice of posting group if his score happens to fall at the borderline option band indicated in the table above. So 21-22 gets to choose G3 or G2, and 25 gets to choose G2 or G1. Nobody else is entitled to choose.

I'd appreciate further clarification on this matter.

If he scores 20, he can only select G3 from the list and below? and not G2?
If he scores 21, he can choose G2 from any school or G3 from certain schools?

Would it be more advantageous to aim for AL21 rather than 19 or 20? Considering that with a full SBB, G3 and G2 will be integrated later?
      Is my understanding correct?
      Thank you very much.

This “strategy” of trying to get into a “better” NA/G2 school versus a “lousy” neighborhood school for Express/G3 is not new. It has been around for decades.

While i understand such a strategy, i wish to give a fuller picture if u are intending to target “exactly” the option band (or even go easier on psle cramming and aim for G2).

What do u mean by “G2 and G3 are integrated”? Under fsbb, yes they all sit in the same form class. However, subject lessons will be split (move to different classrooms) based on G2 or G3 syllabus.

Yes, while G2 and G3 use the same textbooks, G2 is tested on slightly less content (minus 1-2 chapters per topic) and the exam papers are slightly easier (some tutors say got more lenient marking scheme).

Other things to consider: if in PG3, student default starts all subjects at G3 level. If cannot cope (fail persistently), school will recommend remedial lessons first, try again, last resort advise to drop to G2. However, if in PG2, student will start at G2, unless AL5 or better in that subject for psle.

Note the criteria for “upgrading” a subject from G2 to G3 os very tough. Sample from one school (this may vary from school to school, but afaik it is NOT easy):

I hope this will help u make a more informed choice. Also it is not certain what happens if the child’s SEC cert has a mix of G2 and G3 subjects. Schools have not revealed what criteria must be met for them to continue a 5th year to take the G3 level for the 4th year G2 subjects. Some ppl are guessing this is not encouraged, but rather to use the 4th year G2 (& some G3) credits to enter poly foundation program.

(Edited to use 2024 photos, to reflect more accurate terminology used for the official FSBB pioneer batch of students.)

Hi, does anyone know if ACSI ever accepted or at least shortlisted non-platinum awardees for APMOPS via DSA mathematics?

Or has ACSI been strict about this criterion for the past few years?

I understand how sad it is. Not familiar with Math domain but i think it wasn’t so tough in the earlier years. As the school gets more and more popular, they seem to become more and more picky (because they can). Maybe u can try another school (or domain) instead.

I have thought to change domain but my child only have interest in Maths. He is obsessed with maths. I apply DSA purely bec he has interest. And honestly I always in favour of sch near home. Just happened the other 2 schools are slightly far from home.I think no choice has to apply other schs. Do you notice DSA Maths has limited schools compared to other domain like sports, music etc. .So competitive nowadays.

How about NUS High and SST? Also in the West. Entrance exams for all applicants, rather than screened out before even applying.

To your first question, yes, because everyone is allowed to apply to 3 schools, so naturally one can take NUSH DSA selection test while applying to other schools.
To your third question, technically he would stand a chance for schools like NUSH and SST which conducts a selection test for everybody who applied. Not too sure for other schools, they may do a shortlist before inviting for selection test, so may not have much chance.
To your second question, i hearsay some schools will appoint them as prefect, some force them enrol in uniformed groups. It depends on the school, best is check with them maybe during their open house.
                  Thank you for the advise.

Probably cos the number of offers for math domain is very small in ACSI, 1-2 vs 20 in RI, 170 in NUSH.

What are the chances of getting into RGS through DSA Softball?
