Wow do you all attend PTMs?
I avoid teachers like the plague lol! Since P4, I stopped attending PTMs. I do attend whole-level briefing sessions like subject combinations or streaming, but not the type that requires me to meet or speak to teachers.
I only attend when I am asked to - for example, some schools have transitioned to a student-led reflection style type of PTM where the student presents to parents and teachers. That one no choice, have to turn up otherwise child gotta explain why parents cant make it… -

I don’t attend if everything is shunshunlili. But this year i had some qns about sec 2 streaming, plus ft had written some abnormal comments about DS being “very focussed” and “dedicated to academic excellence” so i wanted to verify isit the correct student or not
Those secondary school subject teachers whom I have spoken with (total of 4 so far), are very good subject matter experts, and thoroughly happy to discuss the curriculum and syllabus with me, eye to eye, when they find out that i am following and up to date with all the details of the exam format and content. -

nowadays its more towards PCTC - parent child teacher conference, which is optional . Child need to initiate the whole conversation to share what is their learning plan, target set etc of course parents can ask teachers abt learnings too
Our side booking for both are through PG. Kids have 'no say'. And on the actual day, they were arranged to be at home. So, seems not all schools are using same arrangement. Yea, report book, I was told by cher it was with child tho.
For PTC - parent teacher conference, i heard its for selected students only. We \"kena\" this inivitation when ds was in J1 a -
I have just joined very few PSG events when dd1 in primary school. I always feel I m not doing enough. PTM I always make appt though most time don’t have specific things to ask. Also because dh totally off hand. At least see Teacher’s face also good and also for cher to meet us. Cher says wah you two look so alike… i mean it is quite ok de. Only 10mins max 15mins if time permits.

It’s only in Pri sch I used to attend PTM. In Sec sch, I’ve nvr attended any PTM till Yr 6 as after Covid, I need to know the final year processes & if everything are on track.

Also, during the ptm is a good time to say thank you to the teacher face to face, too. Last time whenever dds brought home the progress report on those individual sheet with comment column from parent…I always write thank you note to teachers…nowdon’t remember seeing any. All grown up liao.

Working moms are ok not to join…For me I somehow feel paiseh lor.

I don’t really like to speak to teachers without my child present (feels like speaking behind child’s back) haha so I only go for PTC if the child asks me to be there as he/she needs to present. I probably have some teacher phobia developed from school days (effect of a Chinese school? hahahahaha)
That said, I must be grateful I didn’t have any specific concerns or questions. If I have any questions, I just ask the kid and so far I get the answers. I would imagine if I would approach teachers if there are questions my kids can’t answer, or there is a concern I need to raise. -

Last time during F2F ptm, i used to bring a small thank u gift for the 2 form teachers (often a desktop calendar for the coming year). But very careful to give only at the end of their 2 years’ teaching my child, so that it is never mistaken as a bribe in exchange for anything.
