In every school (those in the extreme ends included), there are \"good\" and \"not-so-good\" teachers. At the same time, there are also \"good\" and \"not-so-good\" students.
Not sure if it's true for all the other \"accusations\" especially the part on teachers' knowledge/teachings but if you are saying the standard is low, they had gotten a Band 2 for both their Express and Normal Stream which is quite good! :scratchhead:Quintessential Mum:
Educational Standard - Low as majority of the students are those who could not make it to other Sec schools so they are fed into the school. If you are a high achiever, you will not be challenged in terms of curriculum and teachers!
Appreciate others who know about this school well kindly please shed some light on this school please? TIA.
My girl was from a neighbourhood pri school, but I chose to place her at IJ TP for secondary education. Because she does not come from the affliated pri school, we were at a disadvantage in terms of streaming. Neither are we Catholics, so religion is not a deciding factor. Despite that, we still opted for IJTP.
In her 2 years there, she had really caring teachers who went all out to help her. And there were also teachers who \"gave up\" on her class. Things hadn't quite turned out the way we had wanted, academically. Still, I do not think we have made the wrong choice. Looking back, we agreed that much of the fault also lies in my own daughter - she was playful and sometimes inattentive. But I take heart in that she is still strongly rooted in her morals, and thought for others. This is in contrast to what I see in some of her ex-pri school mates in other school.
Values and morals are not only the school's responsibility. But the school environment and culture plays an important part in maintaining what the family upholds. And I think IJ TP has that! -
if there is a choice to transfer from presbyterian high to chij, would u accept it?? Anyone can advise?

And I think IJ TP has that![/quote]Well from the academic standpoint, IJ TP generally caters for the average student and it works well for them. If your child is a high achiever, then she may not be challenged and stretched in that environment. From a moral standpoint, parents/upbringing are usually the ones responsible whilst school plays a supporting role. Nonetheless, it is gratifying to know that your child is enjoying her school. To each its own. -

are the Science teachers here teaching Physics, Chem, Bio good ? heard some of the subject Teachers here are very experienced, had been teaching for decades.
Well if someone teaches for decades, it does not necessarily mean that they are good! That said, there is a very good chemistry teacher who is worth mentioning, a Mrs Tay who drills concepts and is very hardworking. As for Physics, i knew of one that though she had been teaching for a fairly long time did not seem to understand the concepts well and taught the wrong stuff. Thankfully for the students, she was transferred. As for bio, it is similar to physics in terms of standard. Trust it helps albeit being a tad late! -

School environment - Not conducive. There was a case of vandalism where the students actually came back in the night to vandalise the statues and school property! Mind you this is an all girls school! Action taken - none just tell them not to do it again! In the real world, vandals, such as Michael Fay for example are caned and incarcerated!
The students can also be seen in toa payoh/orchard/libraries in their school uniform parading with their boyfriends!
Mission School - I seriously doubt the missionary/religious element here as it is a hotbed for favoritism, backstabbing amongst staff and students alike.Quintessential Mum:
Oh dear!!! Drugs, vandalism.
Yes i had the same thoughts. In CHIJ primary before the new prinicipal, it was the same with Mrs B - lots of favoritism too. Now at CHIJ Sec it is the same in terms of principal and standards when you were in school my dear. It seems to be stuck in a time warp - no progress, no moving forward, same sub standard teaching but in a more violent and fearful environment. A couple of years ago, there were students caught using drugs on the school premises - it came out in the newspaper! So much for a mission school that seems to have lost its way! I regret persuading my daughter to go there even though she qualified for much better schools! I thought that the religious/moral support would be good for character building but was i sadly mistaken. The school seems oblivious to its many very obvious inadequacies! It is amazing! Its motto should be strive to do less and be less that you can be!!What ever happened to nice decent mission sch girls???
What a shame when so many parents transfer their DDs to CHIJ TP in primary sch just to get them into the affiliated sec sch..
Is it still that bad cause I'm going to IJ TP next year for sec 1
:yikes: :scared: :yikes: -
Dear all,
I am a Math tutor and have 2 IJ Tpy girls with me.
As the school has a rather unique order in their Math syllabus, I hope to form 2 small groups (less than 4 students) for girls from IJ tpy only. Looking at Mon 3.30pm and Tue afternoon for Sec 2 express.
please pm me if you are interested. -
hi all toa payoh ij parents!!
i am the producer of the school uniforms. And the old uniform vendor ran away with my money and refused to pay for the uniforms that i have produced. I approached the new vendor and they are not willing to help me. THough these 2 vendors are family related. haiz… very bad experience with these 2 bookshops. Anyway, i have many stock of the white blouses. Pls pm if you would like to buy for your girls. I am clearing to recoup my costs only. you may contact me at 9746 7111 to get the uniforms too. I am selling all at $7 per pc! all sizes same price. hopefully can help me spread the news. -
Hi, may I know which Literature text(s) are the current sec 1 girls reading this year?
-
Hi my gal just got into CHIJ TP this year and I regretted not reading this forum earlier, now I am really worried about all the negative things mentioned.
Since the last post about the school was in 2012, can I know if any parents with their girls there felt the same for the last 2 years? -

You should not worry so much. This school is an above average neighborhood school with strong IJ traditions and alumni support. There are many past students who have excelled at pri and sec level and have done well in life. My older DD is from the TP IJ family since Pri 1. She finished her sec 4 2 years ago, chosen to pursue biomedical science at poly instead of doing her JC. She knows what field she wants to pursue and this is out of her ten years grooming at IJ school.Hi my gal just got into CHIJ TP this year and I regretted not reading this forum earlier, now I am really worried about all the negative things mentioned.
