How much money is considered as enough? :?[/quote]
There is no answer to this qn.
The medical expenses and inflation are the main concerns during retirement.

My routine annual gynae checks, eye checks etc cost each easily $100+ at NUH as subsidized patients.

As for inflation, nobody is immune to it.

If you already have an insurance policy cover most of the illness, then should not be too worry on medical expenses. For inflation, usually interest rate will rise during inflation era and if we have some saving, the interest may cover part of the prices increase.

I am not a rich person but I seldom worry about whether got enough money for retirement or at least I usually don't talk this topics with others. I believe in Singapore, most people have a house to stay, if no food to eat, then go 居士林 for free vegan meal. If boring, can go CC for activities, why need to worry?

I think I will feel more relax when kids are out to work. We 2 old ones can work and earn a little here and there should be fine ba. Actually when kids start working, there will be additional income earner at home…by right should have lesser worries?

Outpatient bills are not covered by medical insurance. Hence they hv to be paid out of pocket.

Yes, when kids started working, there is lesser financial burden and shld hv lesser worries.

Polyclinic consultations may be cheaper than private GP clinics, but if they refer to hospitals for further tests, it can still cost quite a bit even at subsidised rates. I was asked to go for 2 scans (urinary tract) which totalled about $900, and these are not covered by most insurance plans which are usually for hospitalistation. Those who are working get these costs mostly covered by employers, but this will end once they retire.

By the time you retire, you shouldn't need to pay for your kids; they should be independent, and maybe even giving you money! My husband and I found our expenses dropped a lot once the kids graduated and started work - no fees to pay, and they started giving us some money!

                    将来会发生的事,谁都不知道,您一直忧心也未有用,在新加坡,有没有公民因为未有钱医病而死? 您想太多反而对身体不好.

Yes, you understood me. I was referred by the doc in BB polyclinic to see gynae and eye specialists annually in NUH.

Out of curiosity, what kind of eye checks do you do annually? Glacoma?

I do annual checks of my organs, this is addotional to the standard routine ones for blood and gynae related ones. So far no mention of eye checks.
