Polyclinic consultations may be cheaper than private GP clinics, but if they refer to hospitals for further tests, it can still cost quite a bit even at subsidised rates. I was asked to go for 2 scans (urinary tract) which totalled about $900, and these are not covered by most insurance plans which are usually for hospitalistation. Those who are working get these costs mostly covered by employers, but this will end once they retire.

By the time you retire, you shouldn't need to pay for your kids; they should be independent, and maybe even giving you money! My husband and I found our expenses dropped a lot once the kids graduated and started work - no fees to pay, and they started giving us some money!

          将来会发生的事,谁都不知道,您一直忧心也未有用,在新加坡,有没有公民因为未有钱医病而死? 您想太多反而对身体不好.

Yes, you understood me. I was referred by the doc in BB polyclinic to see gynae and eye specialists annually in NUH.

There is no answer to this qn.
The medical expenses and inflation are the main concerns during retirement.

My routine annual gynae checks, eye checks etc cost each easily $100+ at NUH as subsidized patients.

As for inflation, nobody is immune to it.
Out of curiosity, what kind of eye checks do you do annually? Glacoma?

I do annual checks of my organs, this is addotional to the standard routine ones for blood and gynae related ones. So far no mention of eye checks.

Yes, glaucoma which is a silent killer for vision.
After I did my cataract removal for both eyes, the doc recommended to hv glaucoma checked regularly.

                  Star,
Actually what I am facing, is much worse. I have to spend around $400+ dollars on TCM medication every month since early last year in order to control my hypertension. None cents are subsidised by the company and government. Around 2000+ are spent on private dental bills for replacing broken crown or root canal treatment in recent years. All these medical expenses will be continue for the rest of my life. 😢 what should I do?

I work hard and hope the company will give me more bonus, I don't usually go overseas for holiday, I have only 2 pairs of shoes and 2 handbags which costs $20 each from Boon Lay Place shopping centre. I am still wearing those clothing which I bought more than 10 years from Muji. I used CDC vouchers for my haircut.....

We cannot control the rise of medical bills and the costs of living, but we can control ourselves and adapt to this new environment.

Ya. Once our kids start working. Our expenses will drop drastically. Already told my elder she must give allowance once she starts working. Whether or not we need is another matter. As for medical expenses, we can’t really control so no need to worry too much. Eat and exercise to stay healthy. Do the necessary health checks. Go for holidays while our health still permits. My younger has many enrichments but I will try to cut down once she enters sec.

                      Like you, am thrifty too.
My shoes, bags and clothes are the cheap cheap type. It is ok as long as they serve their purpose.
My main indulgence is travelling; about 2 trips per year.

                      Maybe when I retire, i will cut to 1 trip per year provided my health permits.;

haha, \"she must give allowance once she starts working...\".

                        Is she ok?

Mine initially not that willing bec she said her parents are still working and wont need that $$ but I insisted on, else she can move out of my hse

Now she gives $x every mth via GIRO into my bank a/c. Yes, whether we need it is another matter.
