      Hello,

My younger son was born in 2020 and will be registering for primary school in 2026. We also have an older daughter who is currently in Primary 3.

We would like to seek everyone’s advice on whether River Valley Primary School or Pei Chun Public School would be a better choice for our son.

We are a Chinese family and hope that our children can develop a good foundation in the Chinese language. We also place great importance on character education in school.

In addition, we have been trying throughout 2025 to apply for a transfer for our daughter to pei chun, but unfortunately, it was not successful last year. Therefore, our plan is that if our son starts primary school in 2026, we hope that our daughter may also be able to transfer to the same school in the future.

We would greatly appreciate any advice or sharing of experiences. Thank you very much.

Based on your emphasis on a strong Chinese language foundation and character education, Pei Chun Public School (PCPS) is the stronger fit for your younger son. PCPS is widely recognised for its Chinese language emphasis and values education, which aligns with your family’s priorities. River Valley Primary School is also a reputable option with a good holistic profile, but if your top priority is a robust Chinese-language environment and character education, PCPS has the edge.

Why PCPS tends to align with your priorities:

        • Longstanding focus on Chinese language and culture within its primary environment.
        • Consistent emphasis on character education as part of school ethos (in line with MOE’s broader push for holistic development and strong MTL foundations) KiasuParents.

Trade-offs: PCPS vs RVPS (practical snapshot)

        Pei Chun Public School (PCPS)
        Pros aligned with your goals:

        • Strong emphasis on Chinese language and culture.
        • Clear alignment with character education objectives that many families look for.
          Cons/considerations:
        • Transfers and securing a spot can be competitive; availability depends on vacancies and distance from home.
        • If your elder daughter’s transfer relies on the same school, it depends on PCPS’s space and MOE’s admissions rules at that time.

        River Valley Primary School (RVPS)

        • Pros aligned with typical holistic development and convenient central location (depending on your home): often a solid all-round program and supportive environment.

        Cons/considerations:

        • May not be as explicitly Chinese-language–centered as PCPS, which matters to your priority for a strong Chinese foundation.
        • Transfer prospects again depend on vacancies and distance; MOE’s policy means distance can influence allocations if applications exceed spaces
