Happy Saturday! Hope all families and parents have had a great start to the weekend πŸ™‚

We have just released an article discussing the topic whether rewards are good for children and finding the balance between motivation and entitlement.

Many parents in Singapore are familiar with the idea of rewarding children. Sometimes the rewards are small: β€œFinish your homework and you can have extra screen time.” Sometimes they become bigger: β€œScore well for your exams and we’ll buy you something you want.”

Rewards are deeply woven into modern parenting. From stickers and treats to toys, gadgets, holidays, and cash incentives, many families use rewards to encourage good behaviour, discipline, and academic performance.

At first glance, rewards seem harmless and even effective. Children often become more motivated when there is something tangible to look forward to. Tasks get completed faster, grades improve, and responsibilities are fulfilled with less resistance.

However, many parents eventually begin wondering: β€œAm I motivating my child, or am I teaching them to expect rewards for everything?”

The conversation surrounding rewards is more complex than simply deciding whether they are β€œgood” or β€œbad.” In reality, rewards can be helpful when used thoughtfully, but they may also create unintended long-term effects when overused or poorly managed.

At Educare Tutoring, we often observe that motivation, discipline, and emotional development are closely linked. The goal is not merely getting children to perform tasks, but helping them develop healthy internal values and self-discipline over time.

Do give it a read and let us know your thoughts!

Happy Tuesday! Hope all families and parents have had a great start to the work week so far. For students who are on their last week of the June holiday break, hope you are having a well-deserved rest and are ready to kick off the new academic term soon πŸ™‚

We have just released an article discussing the topic of why teaching children to avoid unnecessary enemies may be just ask important as making friends.

When parents talk about social development, much of the conversation naturally focuses on friendship. We encourage children to: Make friends. Be kind to others. Work well in teams. Build healthy relationships. These are all valuable life skills. However, there is another lesson that receives far less attention: Learning how not to create unnecessary enemies.

While the phrase may sound dramatic, the underlying idea is surprisingly relevant. Throughout life, success is not determined solely by how many friends we have. It is also influenced by how we manage disagreements, conflicts, misunderstandings, and relationships with people we do not naturally get along with.

In school, at university, and eventually in the workplace, children will inevitably encounter people who think differently, behave differently, or challenge them in uncomfortable ways. Learning how to navigate these situations wisely can be just as important as learning how to build friendships.

At Educare Tutoring, we believe that social and emotional skills are important components of a child’s overall development, alongside academic success.
