Happy Thursday! Hope all families and parents are looking forward to the end of work week πŸ™‚

We have also just released an article discussing the topic of how not every discomfort needs to be fixed and why children sometimes need to experience difficult feelings and challenges.

There are few things more instinctively difficult for a parent than watching their child feel unhappy. When children are disappointed, we want to cheer them up. When they struggle, we want to help. When they feel excluded, frustrated or embarrassed, there is often an immediate desire to make the feeling disappear.

This instinct comes from love. If we possess the ability to make our children’s lives easier, why would we deliberately allow them to feel uncomfortable?

Yet perhaps there is an important distinction between suffering that children need protection from and discomfort that children need experience with.

A difficult emotion is not necessarily evidence that something has gone wrong. Frustration, disappointment, nervousness, embarrassment and uncertainty are unavoidable parts of being human. More importantly, children will eventually encounter these emotions in situations where their parents cannot make them disappear.

Perhaps part of growing up is not simply learning how to avoid uncomfortable feelings, but discovering that we are capable of experiencing them without being overwhelmed by them.

At Educare Tutoring, we believe preparing children for life means helping them develop both academic capability and the emotional resilience to navigate situations that do not always go according to plan.

Do give it a read and let us know your thoughts!
