Happy Saturday! Hope all families and parents have had a great start to the weekend πŸ™‚

We have just released an article discussing the topic of knowing when to keep going, and when to walk away.

β€œDon’t give up.” It is one of the most common messages children hear while growing up.

When a subject becomes difficult, keep trying. When a sport becomes frustrating, keep practising. When progress feels slow, stay disciplined. When something does not work the first time, try again.

There is good reason for this advice. Children need to learn that difficulty is not automatically a signal to stop. Many worthwhile achievements require patience, repetition and periods when improvement is barely visible.

But perseverance, like most virtues, becomes more complicated when taken to an extreme. There are moments in life when continuing is courageous. There are also moments when walking away requires even more courage.

Perhaps one of the more sophisticated lessons we can eventually teach children is not simply β€œnever give up”, but rather: β€œLearn what is worth not giving up on.”

At Educare Tutoring, we believe resilience is enormously important, but resilience should grow alongside judgement and self-awareness. Children need the strength to endure difficulty, but they also need the wisdom to recognise when persistence is serving their growth and when it is merely keeping them attached to a path that no longer makes sense.

Do give it a read and let us know your thoughts!

Happy Tuesday! Hope all families and parents have had a great start to the work week so far πŸ™‚

We have just released an article discussing the topic of teaching students not just to speak up, but to listen as well.

We spend a great deal of time encouraging children to find their voice.

We want them to answer confidently in class, ask questions when they do not understand, express their opinions clearly and speak up when something feels wrong. We tell shy children not to be afraid of participating and remind older students that communication will matter in interviews, presentations and eventually the workplace.

All of this is important. A child who cannot express themselves may struggle to make their ideas heard. But communication has another half that receives far less attention. Listening.

Not waiting silently for the other person to finish so that we can begin speaking again. Not hearing only enough to prepare our reply. Not pretending to listen while mentally deciding why the other person is wrong.

Actually listening. The ability to give another person enough attention to understand what they are trying to say, even when we disagree with them.

That may sound like a simple social skill. In reality, it is one of the foundations of empathy, good judgement, meaningful relationships and even intellectual growth.

At Educare Tutoring, we believe preparing children for adulthood means helping them become confident communicators, but confidence should not be measured only by how well someone speaks. Sometimes maturity is revealed by whether a person is secure enough to listen.

Do give it a read and let us know your thoughts!
