Hi HappyAvon sounds encouraging....thanks! Hopefully I could get such good results as you...homeworkmummy:
My gal will be joining the i can read prelim reading pogramme with teacher Catherine at Kovan. Any comments about her? also how long does it take to complete the Prelim reading skills to the actual ICR course. I saw the workbook for Prelim reading and seems they dont teach words at this stage at all. In fact my daughter school will start teaching them simple words from term 3 onwards, which means icr will be behind than the school schedule?
Hi homeworkmummy, here is my experience...My girl enrolled in ICR PRP when she was exactly 4 yrs old...It takes about 4-6 mths to progress to their 1 year structured reading programme which consist of Stage 1 and Stage 2..My girl completed stage 1 and skipped stage 2 as recommended by the teacher...She is now in the advanced reading programme which covers reading, writing, grammar and comprehension...In fact when she was attending ICR PRP, she learnt more than what she learnt in her preschool-zoophonics....We are very pleased with her progress in ICR but we will be switching her to Lcentral for their PFS programme which prepares the child for P1...ICR has strong reading programme and my girl really picked up alot from the same teacher since PRP.... -

Hi homeworkmummy, the teacher is very important.....a good teacher can deliver good results no matter which centre the child goes to...We had followed the same ICR teacher since she was in their PRP class..At that time, we attended the centre in Pacific Plaza, Orchard....When the school was moved to Harbourfront centre, we still travelled all the way there just to be with the same teacher....She is a good teacher..strict and no nonsense type....Some parents do not like it but we are okay with her..and most importantly, my girl likes her too....
Good luck to you and hope that you child can get good results with ICR....

Hi all,
I actually just send my son to reading programme (for 5-7yrs) at Jelutung CC last June school holidays after my "bad" experience with phonics read "administrative" issuesβ¦I am quite happy and satisfied and its affordable .Though it was a short one 4x only, my son shown great confidence and now enjoy reading.
It was not purely reading, but they actually taught simple plurals, adjectives and brought home some worksheets .
Hence, me continuing his phonics & reading at Jelutung this coming August.CC is also not bad

Hello homeworkmummy,
My gal had juz been promoted to the ICR Stage 1. She was formally from Teacher Cat's (or Catherine) class for the PRP too.
I must say that Teacher Cat is those no-nonsense kind of teacher. Initially we were a little worried. But we soon realised that we had been unduly worried. My DD enjoys the class. Although in the beginning DD din seem to pick up much from the class. But towards the 4-5mth, we found her trying to use phonics to de-code words she sees. By the time Teacher Cat promoted her, she was reading with pretty good diction.
Therefore I am all thumbs up for ICR. DD is currently with a new teacher, Teacher Micheal. My DD adores him. So I have no prob getting her to attend his class too. :rahrah:
Think your gal will benefit a lot fr the class.

Hi, my gal is in ICR now. She is 6 yrs old now. She gone thru TCS, PRP and now she is in ICR prog. I think she is okay wif her comprehension but on reading still not very gd β¦ I dunno abt other children, but for my gal, she will stop when she see some "unknown" word. Then she will look at me for help. I hv been trying to get her use "phonics" to break the word, but she just refuse to do that. Anyone can advise me how to improve her reading skill? I dunno she has no confident or she cant do it?

My girl is in ICR abt 1 yr +, next month moving to ICR Stage 1, previously, as she only bring back workbooks fr school and she couldn't tell us what she learnt there, we have to spend money to buy other phonics books so that she can base on it to do her homework. hahahahhaha, cos there is no materials fr ICR, we unable to tell what she has learnt.
Until this year Jun, we oso sign her up for KRTC at TYP to learn phonics, she pick up beri fast, then we realise, she must have been taught something in ICR, but becos there was no materials, we unable to reinforce learning w her, until KRTC got a book that she need to study, sort of like text book, most of the words in the book she could try to blend and got it about 80% correct.
Fr there I think, she did learn something fr ICR, maybe the techiques, tat's why she pick up KRTC phoics so fast. Since she wd be going for ICR Stage 1 next month, there will be some textbooks and reading materials given, we intend to let her continue both ICR and KRTC, but KRTC phonics is a one year prog, so we may w/d her by end of the year.
I got abt 200 to 300 story books at home, my girl never like to read, and I oso never force her. What I do is, I ask her to draw the pic from the story books or copy from the story books, every book she copy, I will give her one star, and she can accumulate and change things, like burger etc..........
