It is correct, if we say \"As Mr Tan was walking towards the lift, he heard the emergency bell ringing.\"

      Hi

      paiseh,my English shaky shaky one.

From the grammar books that I have, you may also use ringing in this case. The use of ringing stresses the continuity of the action ring.

So far I have not come across qns which give both optiions. Either one is correct.

          Hi Tianzhu,

          Thanks for the info.

It is correct, if we say \"As Mr Tan was walking towards the lift, he heard the emergency bell ringing.\"

          Can advise?
Yes, also can. That's why the word 'ringing' is not given as an option.

                  Hi Ruyu,

This follows the distractor rule. We should not consider the part "my sister" as it is irrelevant. So, me is the correct answer.

                      Hi starlight,

The answer is plural - 'have'. šŸ˜„

This is because 'the majority of people' means most of the people.
You talking about the individuals that make up the majority, 'majority'
does not refer to one single group. Hence, the verb is plural.

                        Hi ruyu,

I would like to add on to the explanation to help clarify this question šŸ˜„

This question is one of the most commonly made mistakes that students
                        make.

The answer is 'me' because 'May' is the one doing the action and
the character 'me' is the one receiving it. 'I' is only used when
you are the doer of the action.

                        Eg: I made him cry

'Me' is used when you are the receiver of the action

                        Eg: He made me cry

                        In your question:
May met my sister and_______ for tea yesterday

The character 'me' is the receiver and not doer of the action 'met'
and hence the answer should be 'me'.

                        Hope this helps šŸ˜„
