All About Primary Schools' Balloting History

How come MOE do not go Green?
Actually, MOE is trying to be green, and hence the distance sets in when there is balloting. It's parents who are not green. The parents are the ones who decide to send their children to schools not near their houses for one reason or another.
MOE believes that all schools are the same. Parents do not think so, though. -

That's why parents who stay within 1 km and need to go through balloting see red.

Visiting this thread brought back memories of my galโs P1 registration.verykiasu2010:

Intially, we intended to register her at Tao Nan under 2 C, (within 1 km)
Later, we changed our mind and placed our gal in a all girlsโ school.
Heard from my neighbour that the number of applicants were just nice without balloting, and he kept thanking us for changing our mindโฆ..
Save him all the worries as he had 3 sons and his elderโs son is the same age as as my galโฆ..
(think abt it, no wonder, he dissuaded us by saying since mine is a gal, it would be better to go to all girls' sch).........
shd i register my gal at TNS, he should see RED too......

well, then those who stay in places not near school dunnid to go?All students must stay within school radius. Less travelling for student and parents.
(my kids will love that).
I think it's good that they do take into consideration parents ties to the school. I always find it mildly interesting that 3 generations go to the same school (not me, others). -
Hi all,
I just read this on the MoE web site:
From 2010, Singapore Citizens will be given two ballot slips for each child, while Singapore Permanent Residents will continue to get one ballot slip per child.
I wasn't aware of this new rule. What does it mean when a child has two ballot slips? Does it mean double chances in the balloting? -
Hi nansk,
It means that if balloting is required, then the child will have 2 chances if he/she is a Singaporean. This is a new ruling starting this year. -
Thanks! That is heartening to know
