You seem very knowledgeable about all aspects of DSA, NMOZ, SMOPS etc, wonder if you know of any kids who had been rejected by the top few schools for DSA due to HCL???

My son is in GEP . Good in all subjects except HCL. Am very worried about next year’s DSA. Went to HCI, RI and ACSI open house , like the first 2 but worried about being pulled down by the HCL portion. Do they strictly look at the total average or individual subject?

hence no need to ballot for phase 2B ? !!

I think need to ballot for those out of 2km...there's still grassroots etc...

doubtful on the number of grassroots within 1 km

was told NYPS has been very judicious in admitting PV as they want to avoid a ballot at Phase 2B as much as they can estimate / predict.

not sure how the new principal would handle this from this year onward

normally they do not consider PV applications from those who stay far away[/quote]If you look at past stats, there are still quite a number of people registered out of 2km at phase 2b...true that they would normally consider those who stay close to the school and best if one parent can contribute freely during school hours.

There may be a change in how they choose PVs this year, with the new principal...

HCI is not a super cheena school, but it is still predominantly chinese (culture wise), and I think most kids there do HCL. I think most RI kids do HCL / HMT too so that they do not deal with it in year 5 & 6. ACSI is well known for the chinese standard. go read more on the respective discussion thread on HCI / RI

If you were the principal of HCI / RI, how do you choose between students who are good in all 5 subjects incl HMT versus those who are good in 4 but not HMT ?

I heard the domain selection test in RI for MT (Chinese) was very tough ..... some kids who have been excelling in HCL were stumped !

HCI , may be. But RI, not all GEP students take HCL, so we are not comparing apple to apple. And our school is famous for being extremely strict in marking. I’ve seen markings in ACSP versus ours for the same paper, lets just say if the teachers-in-charge at these top schools are not aware of the differences in marking standards, our kids are at a comparative disadvantage.

not really. your kid is in P5. you would have attended the briefing for P5 kids/parents

they would have told you the average prelim t-score versus actual psle t-score of nyps kids

hence the DSA schools rely on their own selection test instead of kid's own school result

                        That so?

NYPS website has a breakdown of enrolment by distance.
The numbers of 2B registrants who are outside 2km were 24 in 2007, 26 in 2008, and 23 in 2009. So aren't these PVs who live outside 2km (assuming those 2B via the grassroot route are within 2km)?
