Based on the votes submitted, Marymount Convent only garnered 6% of the votes for preferred school in Toa Payoh. Is this because of its location? or because it has no affiliation?

Did Marymount ever have an affiliated sec school ? I remember how stringent they were back then. My mum wanted to put me there and because we are not Catholics, and also the school was using Higher Chinese, my mum decided not not register me there.

There was a secondary section as late as the 80s.

I believe that one of the female MPs, Indranee Rajah (sp?), hails from there.

Thanks very much, toffeev. That was very helpful and assuring.

Hope there's a school bus that goes to town else it'll be another mad dash to the childcare near the school in the evenings...
        U stay near town?

          Hi

Does anyone know anything about Pei Chun ? Heard that the standard has dropped over the last few years and the principal has changed. In 2009 PSLE, Pei Chun did not have any top student. Does any parent intend to register in that school or has children in that school ? What are your comments please ?

I am an RC member staying within 1-2 km from Pei Chun. Looks like I need to ballot and I dont like the idea of leaving things to chance. I am likely NOT to register there. Has anyone got any suggestion what is my next best alternative? Thanks !!

Marymount had a sec school but was closed down more than 10 years ago.

We live in Marine Parade, but work in/around town so our alternatives are either putting him in after school care near MS or our workplace... so if there's no school bus from MS to town, then it'll be a mad dash to pick him up after work... not looking forward to it...

My nephew studies there and I think Pei Chun is still a reasonably good school, probably best in Toa Payoh area. If you register under Phase 2B, you should still stand a good chance. But if you do not like balloting, Kheng Cheng is probably the safest bet.

er .. you stay at Marine Parade, work in town, then why MS in Toa Payoh? :?

why not a primary school & BASC in Marine Parade, so that your child need not waste time travelling every school days. Not forgeting that there will be enrichment classes and CCA in the future.

You can consider the Circle Line MRT. The MRT is just next to the school.

To help with your planning, what you can do is to call the school & ask for the bus operator's tel no. & check out the transportation first. That was what I did beginning of last year. I even asked them to tell me an estimated time of morning arrival & afternoon arrival so that I can decide if we want to send our son there on our own in the mornings & him taking the school bus home in the afternoons.

Thanks! Just called up school and then bus operator... Operator told me it can be arranged if I don't mind my boy being the last to be dropped off... unfortunately, she can't estimate the arrival time as they have no boys that are dropped off in town at present... sigh, wondering if this makes any sense...

in reply to the earlier post, we did try looking for schools in and around Marine Parade and tried the shhk route... unfortunately, our application was rejected and given the stats this year and our luck in general, are not too keen on trying under phase 2c... we did try to find out about the other boy/coed schools in the area we qualify for but did not hear too favourable comments... MS was/would've been my first choice but for the distance and the fact that I also have a younger girl... i have this idea that keeping them together in the same school would help to keep them closer...
