I was also harrassed by my previous maid thru phone calls & smses, until I changed my house number and mobile number. Then she had the cheek to contact me recently through facebook, and sent me a friend invite! What nerve! After causing so much unhappiness in my household before leaving, she had the cheek to do this! :x :x

If you are that free, create a new account and friend her....and then flame her for the bad she's done. Naughty girl. :stupid:

      hmmm.......

I'm wondering since now my current maid agrees to no day-offs, how does she send $$ home? Do I have to send for her? Where and how can I do that? My previous maids all go to Lucky Plaza to send $$. Do I have to go there too? :?

Also, is it reasonable to pay her $30 extra on top of her monthly salary of $350 to compensate for her day-off?

        Thanks in advance!

        Hi minnie2004,
        ๐Ÿ˜‰
My maid from Indo. so I go to BNI to do remittance for her. Charges are cheaper and faster I understand compared to SingPost/Western Union. We went to check before and SingPost also goes via BNI so not fast enough. Western Union I am not sure why we did not use but I think her home-town got BNI so convenient for her. Maid ask her relative to open BNI account so that when I do the FT into relatives' account, they can get funds immediately!

I also insisted my maid to open a BNI account in Singapore so that when she goes home, she converts all her SGD money and put straight into her BNI account in Spore then go to her home-town and withdraw using her ATM. Initially she wants to save on those bank charges and told me to put into her relative's account instead. I told her I don't anyhow put money into other people's accounts one! She must open her own! ๐Ÿ˜›

Should never allow her to bring a lot of cash back! Heard of horror stories of those in transit in their airports and officers kerna con them of their money!

There is one BNI at Lucky Plaza as well as one at Robinson Road.

Cannot do funds transfer using OCBC/POSB/DBS either. All cost SGD30/= per transfer! :x BNI is SGD10/= per FT and if the FT is into maid's own account, charges only SGD7.50.

I think maid does FTs about 3 times per year, not every month.

As for the pay per off-days, mine was SGD20/= per day.

        :celebrate:

Thanks for your info DesertWind! I think my previous filipino maid send $$ thru western union in lucky plaza. So maybe I just go with her 1 day (during weekdays of course ๐Ÿ˜› ) to open an a/c there.

I guess I overpaid her then w/ $30 per day. Oh well, this gives her less incentive to change her mind and ask me for day-offs in the future ๐Ÿ˜‰ .

My DH is the happiest person as he doesn't need to wash dishes anymore ๐Ÿ˜ . As for me, I plan to do more cooking myself in preparation to go maidless/part-time maids in the future. During the 3 weeks w/o a maid, I found out I'm actually not a bad cook, just hate all the washing and cutting ๐Ÿ˜‰ .

hi minnie2004, good for you. Now adjustment period, no choice hard life a bit.

FYI, the 2 maids I hired can't cook, but luckily my parents love to cook. So the maid deal with the cutting and washing, and my parents enjoy just the cooking process. win win situation.

          Hi hquek,

Actually all my previous maids (except one who's an ex-spore) couldn't cook and I (actually my parents as I didn't know how to cook either  ) had to teach them. By the time they became pretty good cooks, they all fled for Europe :stupid: . So I'm hesitant to train another maid to cook, knowing that she will most probably join her friend in Europe in a year or so. So I thought why not brush up my own cooking skills instead? At least I won't feel so helpless when she leaves :gloomy: She can just focus on cleaning, which can be easily taken up by a part-time maid :boogie:

Anyway, they left on good terms so I'm ok with that. I guess they either still want to keep in touch and see my kids' photos on FB or brag about their new life. My last maid said on her status update that she's \"bored\", and posted a lot of pics of her outings w/ friends.

Hi desertwind, thanks for the tips. Had no clue how else they can remit money. I once argued with a singpost employee over the remittance charge she was levying - she lumped up the whole sum resulting in a much higher charge when we could do it in 2 tranches. All that to save my maid some money.

My previous maid went home 3 times over 5 years. I gave her a money belt to wear so the money is 'safer'. It's the cheapest way I could think of. Warn her a lot of times about possible danger, anyway, lucky it all ended well. I think each time she brought back a few k, no issues.

You are absolutely right about telling maids to deposit the money in their own accounts. My ex-maid did that and henceforth all her monies went into her own account. After 5 years in singapore, she had her own piece of land - probably married and mother by now. ๐Ÿ˜›

                    Re: Long hair issue

Thanks everyone for your kind advice ๐Ÿ™‚

I do understand that at times we do need to pick the \"right\" battles with our helper. That's why after 3 helpers, I more or less already close 1-eye with them. As long as do not give me big issues, I still can \"tong\". Afterall, we will be at the losing end if things really nasty...

Keeping of hair wise - I reiterated to her why my preference for short hair and the usual practice at my place. I will let them keep long only ONLY the few months before they go home. But I am not a tyrant, she will still make the decision. But I think she got my point, afterall I am allready chin-chaing on other stuff...and the easy lifestyle she has at my place...

Yup I notice most filipina maids love long hair, they think its sexy  even tho some dont suit long hair.

My past maids used to come in with shoulder length hair. I dnt really care as long as its not too long and they tie it up and look neat. I told my past maids that I will send them to the salon if I see strands of hair on the floor or in the food. So far so good, anyway none of them stayed long enuff for their hair to reach their waist.

My previous maid has waist-length hair. I don't think she ever cut her hair during that 1+ year with us. Everytime she went out on her day off, she'll let her hair down and dress in tight t-shirt and pants. Don't understand how she can stand the heat with such long hair ๐Ÿ˜
