Typically the IP schools will have high academic expectations of their sports applicants. For example, in HCI the sports applicants also go thru the same acadamic test as the other applicants in addition to the sports trail.
From what I know, RGS used to accept those who are top few in the national-level sports competitions via Sports DSA without much regard on their academic performance. I am not sure if it is because she has realised that some sports students were not doing well in their studies (exacerbated by long and frequent sports practices and competitions), but this has changed. Starting last year or the year before, those accepted under Sports DSA must also have good academic records. -
Yes, I agree with mjl. A friend’s son was not offered by HCI last year even though he was #1 or #2 for his sports category based on national records. I think these schools have wised up based on the past 6(?) years of DSA experience. Having some students struggle and then being placed into a class to do ‘O’ levels in an IP school defeat the purpose of the IP curriculum. I guess that’s why for DSA via talents like Sports, Arts, etc, the IP schools still look for GAT results, P5/P6 results and CCA records to make the judgment call as to whether the child can cope in the system.
So in conclusion, once child is selected by the school with the above criteria in mind, he/she should receive a letter of offer from school, and as long as he/she meets the cutoff for express, he/she should be placed in the school.
Maybe those who have a confirmed DSA letter already THIS year can comment on this understanding. -

My daughter's RGS Juniors mentioned that they still needed to get at least 250 for their PSLE even with their sports DSA offers . I get the impression that this may be the case only in the very recent years. I dont know if this is across the board policy or only for specific sports or specific circumstances. Maybe we'll hear from this year's batch when the offers come in.
That's interesting, d1s2. Which schools would these be? It must be a new introduction because my friend's dd who's in Sec 2 was admitted through DSA Sports with the minimum requirement of meeting the express stream cut-off.d1s2:

I think it used to be that as long as you meet the express stream cutoff of 200pts, any dsa offer remains. However, my daughter and a friend with a son in RI told me recently that there is now a requirement of 250 that they will still need to meet. In both instances, I heard about this requirement in relations to those under sports DSA. I am not sure if those under the academic domains are the same.
I know that during my daughter's year, some of the sports DSA girls came in with 210s-220s for their PSLE and struggled in their exams in Sec 1 and 2.That may be why some of the schools have this additional requirement now. -

Dont think the results are out for next year's sec 1s yet.

during one of the meetings with one of the principals in March 2010, we asked this question on PSLE t-score requirement for those DSA confirmed students.
the answer is as per MOE guideline
but then we also know that they won’t make DSA offer to those who shows weak academic result…that is why they set their own DSA test instead of relying on school results of the P6 kids -
DD applied DSA via Academics + the confirmed letter stated PSLE score must meet the express stream requirement. they are doing DSA sports interview this wk; so the confirmed offers for sports should be out soon; then can see if there’s any stated min PSLE score.

How R these DSA-Sports Girls doing currently?

Have they managed to catch up on their grades?
If Not, R the school giving them Additional Supplementary class to help them?
