Saw a pair of twins at MS yesterday…hope that helps? Considered as 1 application?

Hope those who are using MS as a backup will withdraw, now that there’s balloting too…

The exchanges on registration at MSH is very intense here. Really hope all of you will get thr’ even with balloting. Can see how much you all wanted a place there & it’s a good choice indeed! My ds is there & he is enjoying himself. Just finished his Learning Journey to the Zoo this morning & I know he’ll come back & chat non-stop about his outing.

Yes, considered 1 application. That was what happened to us last year at 2B at MS, exceeded by 1 & that 1 was part of a twin so no need to ballot 😄 .

Could the remaining 1 vacancy already took the twins as 1 and not 2? 😞

Janet, my son is just half way thr' P1. It's been a breeze for him so far tho he has friends who do not fair as well. He said that 8 boys from his class who got below 85 for SA1 (comprise of part ting-xie, tests, listening & other written papers & etc) has been called up for remedial lessons. Instead of looking at it as a pressure cooker, I see this as a positive sign that the school is proactive & interested in helping these kids up to mark. I know of some top schools who do not offer any enrichment lessons to help the kids. Recently, I saw in one of his chinese test sheets on the left is wei som moh (i don't know how to type out in chinese) - on the right my son had to fill in why & in all about 8 questions like na li - my son had to fill in where. I thot' that's a good bi-lingual way to approach.

I love Maris' bi-cultural environment as compared to the Convent, the MGS, the ACS, very english (ang moh) kind of environment. Janet, I suppose the bi-lingual environment applies for your ds' school too. During the 1st 2 days of P1, Maris conduct sessions for parents & hubby & I were so impressed with the bi-lingual approach of the school But that said, many Maris boys come from english speaking home & when you walk among the boys, you feel as if you are like walking in a SJI or ACS kind of environment. So the parents are encouraged to speak & expose them as much as possible to mandarin (but most often, very very difficult cos they always always reply in english, sigh).

I have to add that my son do not attend Tien Sia or any of these reputable Chinese enrichment schools so for many parents who are put off cos of HCL, don’t be overly worried.

                      Honey,

It’s a good feeling knowing the teachers care about the weaker students. My son in Pei Hwa, has Math remedial as he didn’t fare too well in SA1. His new form teacher continued with the remedial in Term 3 (former one has gone on maternity leave).

In Pei Hwa, Eng and HCL lessons are almost equivalent. The school also engages students in Mooncake festival (parents can contribute mooncakes and students enjoy early dismissal from school) and Racial Harmony day (students are to wear traditional costumes to school).
During the Parent-Teacher meeting, his Chinese teacher asked us to speak to him in Mandarin but like you mentioned, it’s VERY difficult bcos my son will reply in English and my daughter will ask me to translate.

In IJ, I think the girls will cringe if they hear classmates speaking in Mandarin.
