If you are catholic, I think you won't have to do PV for catholic schools. Speak to your church about getting the recommendation letter. Query first now even if your child is enrolling in 2013 - make sure you are eligible for the letter.
There is no need for a recommendation letter from any Catholic church. All you need is the baptism certificate (some want both yours and child's, some just want the child's cert). So make sure you can find your own baptism cert ahead of time. If you lost it, better go to the church you were baptized at to ask for a copy. No need to do PV at Catholic schools. Eligible for Phase 2B at all Catholic schools with the baptism cert.

Hi all, I am new here. I would like to clarify the phase 2B eligiblity. If only one of the parent is Catholic, will the school let u register under 2B? I have checked the MOE website, and seems it stated that as long as parent is the church member, it should be ok.

However, while browsing the forum, some said the child must be catholic also…???

For Catholic schools, the child MUST be a baptised Catholic.

And a child can be baptised as long as ONE of the parents is a baptised Catholic, right? Can do infant baptism as long as child is below 6, right?

            hi yuen fong,

yes the school may accept application under phase 2b if only one parent is a catholic, but i did see some ppl mention different schools have different requirements, so i think its better to call up the school and ask to be sure.
by the way are you applying for primary one for 2011 intake?

I registered at a Catholic school this year under 2B. As a typical kiasu singaporean, i brought both my and my child's baptism certificates. But the school only looked at the child's baptism cert.

Awaiting for balloting like now...... 🙏

Yes, the child must be baptized. MOE says parent must be clan/church member but I think that applies more for clans such as Hokkien Huay Kuan (the child doesn't need to be member). For Catholic schools, the child must have baptism cert coz they usually put these children in the same group to attend catechism or pastoral care classes.

Does anyone have any info whether CHIJ Toa Payoh will ever become a full school? I dunno why till now it is not a full school since both its primary and secondary schools are on the same premises.

BTW, what is the definition of a "full school"?

Yes, I would think so becoz this is the policy for both Maris Stella and Holy Innocent when I enquired. You just need to produce the child's baptism cert. not the parents'. This is also in line with the church's teaching -- a catholic parent is obliged to raise his/her children under catholic faith and the non-catholic parent must agree to this condition when they marry in church. My DH is also not catholic.

Just wondering whether it's the school who decides to be a FULL school or MOE. However, what is the difference then, other than 1 principal for both primary and secondary. What are the advantages of attending a FULL school ?

Thanks so much for answering my question. I called up Catholic High, CHIJ TPY and CHIJ St. Nicholas, they said as long as one of the parents is Catholic, the child can be registered under 2B…I am not sure though, seems like a lot of different answers from different schools. My daughter will be registered next year. But I will still perform PV for the school of choice, as I think it is important to know the school better through various activities.
