          Busymom:
This was a long time ago. A friend went to Hwa Chong JC during her first 3 months (before O' level result was out), but she hated the \"culture\" there. Not sure why especially when she comes from Chinese speaking family background.

Ultimately, it depends on the kid who may prefer or suit one \"culture\" to another.

Where your friends are going may also be a deciding factor.
Ha ha, I remembered many moons ago when I was choosing between Hwa Chong JC and RJC, I went to both open houses, and I just didn't like the RJC \"culture\"... couldn't say the reason why oso .... just the vibes, maybe? I came from a reasonably good sec sch (but not the top ones) and only a handful (like ~ 10) went to either one, so I didn't have a major friends-factor to take into consideration either... well... that's part of life...

RGS and NY are so different in terms of culture. Personally, I would choose RGS because I like the culture there better. Also the Raffles name is more well known in the overseas Universities.

From what i heard more GEPers prefer RGS/ RI; so more chance for mainstreamers (DSA) especially those on waiting list ?? 😉 strange; looking at the comments in this thread, i tot more prefer RGS until i saw the voting results. those prefer RGS are more vocal ? or the survey is still new - voters not enough.

My DD was deciding RGS or NY after the result. She went to NY for a look and she was "wow" by the school compound but also concerned that everything is in Mandrian. She was from a convent school and she choose RGS without further thoughts.

After discussing with some mums; I think choosing RGS is better as the name is more well known with US uni.

                  \"everything is in Mandarin\" is a myth

no school in singapore is any less English than any other school

                  this is not the 1970s

am surprised too, but this thread is merely less than a day old

Frankly, the traffic along Bukit Timah isn’t that bad. I live in the east and every morning it takes me not more than 20 mins to max 25 mins to send my DS to HCI.

My DD is at P5 now and I have already started to "brain wash" her to choose NYGH.
