Wah! But $100k is still alot alot of $$!!!

if buy one property and sell one, the stamp duty for buying and the sale commission, plus renovation cost, easily adds up to more than S$100k already

so, to donate S$100k is easier and still cheaper.

where is the lobang ? please

i am going to send my child to primary school in 4 years time, but i feel i have to start reading up and knowing more about this education system. wat a rat race!!!!! Personally i am really not impressed.

Anyway, wish to get advice. My husband is from NYPS. So does that mean my daughter will automatically get a place in the school? I called up the school and they said MOST LIKELY i'll get a place for her in the school. And the school admin was suggesting my husband may wish joining the alumni to get a higher priority which cost $1000 for lifetime!!!
4 years is a long time, bcos MOE changes rules & regulations every now and then. But if your hubby is a former student of NYPS, your daughter will qualify under Phase 2A2, which until now is a 99% guarantee. As for alumni, it costs $1000 and a one-off. From what I heard, there are frequent meetings for alumni members, which is the reason why hubby's colleague didn't want to join as he has to go overseas often.

the alumni is very very active and hence the robustness of the school traditions .....

YEAH..heard about it. those principals will be hanged as evidence is obvious if an audit is done

like the chinese saying goes, egg no matter how tight chick will come out.

you can simply register someone as PV or church member or community member towards the end without real work done.....it is all up to the school and church..otherwise ppl will just attend one or two sessions.

Based on my personal experience, I have to warn that past history is only as good as reference but do not bet on it. It was more than 10 years ago and I still remember vividly.

Well we had invested in a property 350m from SCGS after reviewing all the good girls’ school and narrow down that SCGS is easy to secure through the ballot history. So we took it easy though we saw on website that registration for Day1+2 was already higher than available seats. We took it for granted that most must be from >1km.

We were in for a shock when we went in the afternoon on the 3rd day. The 76 registration were all in <1km and many were starting to pull out to go elsewhere. It seemed so impossible to have so many girls in <1km in that low-rise housing area. We found out later that many own a property in the vicnity with the same thinking as us!!

Anyway, we were the last one to pull out, after checking that we could get into NYPS that year without a ballot. And for the record, therefore that year SCGS did not have a ballot. Very misleading right?!

My gal is in Pei Chun. Husband is an old boy so when I realised that I was too late to join the alumni, the staff at PCPS assured me that its ok. Cos whatever places are left after phases 2a will split into 2 and goes into phase 2b & 2c. Just that if u are in the alumni, u get to register in an earlier phase.

                        Hi jslow,

Yup, those in alumni register earlier.
Just wondering, will Phase 2A2 continue to be ‘safe’ for parents to register in the near future as well. This phase is for teachers who are teaching in school of choice, as well as siblings who have studied there and for children whose parents are old boys/gals. Will it continue to be guaranteed ?
