          Hi,

          You need to go to People Associate(PA) or Community Center that is the nearest to your home and ask for an application form to register yourself as a RC members.

          You will be registered as Observers and volunteered in all the PA or RC activities for about 3-6 months before they confirmed you as executive members.

          1-2 month before Primary registration starts, PA will ask members to register yourself so that they can prepare a Letter signed by your Member of Parliment (MP) to endorse you as a community leader.

          Volunteering in Schools and through RC or CCC is different. Hour is longer then 40 Hours. The committment is also different as people you are working with are usually your neighbours.

          Speaking from experience, it is quite fullfilling as your children can also be involved within your neighbourhood.

          If you dun enjoy helping within your community, organizing block parties or volunteering in Government Feedback session, I dun recommend it.

          Also the endorsement letter is only applicable to your GRC. I have a friend who live near within 2 km of St Hildas but his has volunteered for the wrong GRC. She did not realise it until tit is too late so make sure you dun make the same mistake.

          Hope this help.

          titank:

          Phase 2B2
          (i)For a child whose parent has joined the school as a parent volunteer not later than 1 July 2007 and has given at least 40 hours of voluntary service to the school by 30 June 2008;

          (ii) or whose parent is a member endorsed by the church/clan directly connected with the school;

          (iii) or whose parent is endorsed as an active community leader.

          Anyone know how to being endorsed as an active community leader?

            Go to http://app.grassrootsconnect.org.sg/ and login with Singpass. If you're a qualified GRL, you'll be able to submit the application online (it will open for only a period every yr). PA will inform all GRL on the opening dates accordingly yearly. Afterwhich you should receive a letter from PA. Bring this letter to sch on Phase 2B reg period.

              Dun think this is correct. coolparent, is this your own personal experience? The eligibility is only for the GRC one served in and not by your residential GRC. In your eg, you should only qualify for GRC 2's schools under P2B. If you're not sure, I can check with my PA's SCM as I myself is a GRL for many yrs but never hear that one can be qualify for 2 GRCs (all benefits are tied to where you serve, e.g. parking).

              i3mum:
              Thank you coolparent!
              coolparent:

              yes if you reside in GRC 1 and serve in GRC 2, your P2B letter issued by PA will state that your child are eligible to enrol into any schools within the 2 GRCs.

                  [/quote]Yes it is from my own experience. Generally you are`able to serve at any GRCs in Singapore but only at Citizen Consultative Comm (CCC ) and Community Club Management Comm (CCMC ) levels. If Resident Comm (RC), only residents within the constituency can serve in RCs. For CCMC and CCC executive members, if you happen to reside in another GRC, you are able register at 2B phase within the GRC you serve or the GRC you reside. In fact during the registration exercise, the Schools will have a list of all qualified GRLs who have received the 2B letters. In this list, there are quite a number of GRLs who stays outside the GRC. However I do agree with you privilages such as free parking etc will only be for GRC you serve.

                    Dun worry, no diff. 1 star or 4, as long as your're a EM/GRL, you will get the letter for 2B. But you need to be an EM for at least a year. If not, you will need to go to MP to seek special waiver (I know of cases) if he knows you thru the many activities or thru chairman's recommendation. The chairman must also do his best to get MP to know the members. My ex-chairman was great, always put us infront of MP and I thanked him a lot till now.

                    As long as you're already a EM (or what people call GRL), you will be one unless you sleep throughout. RC can recommend PA to strike off the membership. I have did that/recommended to PA to remove many sleeping observers and members.

                    if your RC/NC is 1 star - Yes

                      Hi, what appt you referring to? EM? Min. we expect attendance at mthly mtg for EM. For observers, we expect more. He/she needs to be proactive and participate/help out at least RC events. Then we'll consider put him up for EM after 3 months (min.). We have observers who attend mtg on and off and never help out, still remain observers after 1 yr!
