HCI is the old Hwa Chong? :?

Now Hwa Chong Institute.

Institution*
RI, HCI
Why is RI always called Institution, with no concept of institute while we are always called Institute? Too used to calling it chinese high is it

During my time (i was born in mid 70s), The PSLE cut off point for RGS was ALWAYS higher than NYGH. It's the no. 1 girl's school. So I was quite surprised when I read that for last year, NYGH's COP was the highest. Seems like there's a shift?

RI/RGS cop dropping already, not the 270 people keep thinking off. Now averagely 262-3 only

That means that if you do HCL in PSLE, and when you apply for non-SAP secondary school, you don't get any bonus points even if you have done well in it?

That's almost like a \"waste\" of your time and effort, wouldn't it? I mean \"waste\" not from a learning perspective (because you definitely gain something from it), but \"waste\" from the point of PSLE aggregate.

And if you are in the non-SAP secondary schools, what is the advantage of continuing with HCL? :?

pass your O level HCL and you can say good bye to CL in JC forever

pass both languages and enjoy 2 more bonus points granting admission to the wa-so-impossible HCI and RI

talk is that RGS girls very career minded one ..... corporate head honcho....work till forget to date and forget to meet the boys ..... the only boys their meet are in the board room and all got defeated la......

foreverj:
i like the fact that RGS girls r more opinionated, able to articulate their thoughts well.
OH, the above quotes are interesting. I have been reading this section of the forum for sometime. I have something to add.

I have an employee who told me that if you don’t want your daughter to be left on the shelves, you better don’t sent your daughter to RGS. Opinionated ? I have also met exRGS women in my business contacts who are so opinionated to the extreme that I would have called them arrogant, display of self-importance, domineering. And fyi, most of them are unmarried. Bear in mind that too opinionated is never an attractive point to men.

Good one! Maybe attractive to the ladies instead!

This reminds me of an article on \"Boss and I\" so now I am going to write one for man and woman.

When a smart man shares his opinions, it is seen as famous quotes
When a smart lady shares her opinions, it is seen as opinionated

When a smart man shows he knows what he wants, it is confidence
When a smart woman shows she knows what she wants, it is arrogance

When a smart man places self before others, it is leadership
When a smart woman places self before others, it is self-importance

When a smart man insists on his way, it is assertion
When a smart woman insists on her way, it is domineering

The world is just such a funny place to be in...

In my chats with mums and kids, I find that while many of the girls are keen on RGS, their mums prefer them to go to NYGH. The reason most often given is that NYGH is strong in cultural and traditional values, that it's bilingual and their girls will grow up to respect their elders, have filial piety and will not be too headstrong. 😄
Haha... that sounds like my DH! He prefers his DD to grow up to respect their elders, have filial piety, not too headstrong, be nice, courteous and congenial!!! Does that project on what guys are looking for in gals?!?!

sama, sama, DH also influenced dd to apply NYGH DSA and not RGS. 'cos scared dd will be too domineering and always argue with him (aft observing our niece who just graduated from RGS/ RJC). seems like s’pore guys still very traditional and can’t stand lady boss.
NY has compulsory cultural activities, like chinese calligraphy and chinese martial arts. RGS doesn't. So it depends on where your interests lie.

those are not compulsory

though they are strong in it

some of them carry over from NYPS, hence strong foundation in calligraphy and martial arts .... so, boys beware of the martial arts girls !!

It's in their timetable, so everyone has to do them.
just got it confirmed

the timetable thing is only for a few lessons leading up to CNY so that every student has a chance to practise it before the mass calligraphy during CNY hui chun, so that the students don't look clumsy doing it

after that it is no more.
