Everyone’s focused on too many ppl within 1km of RGPS this year, which is certainly true - BUT WHAT IS ALSO INTERESTING IS THAT 63 VACANCIES FOR PHASE 2C WAS BY FAR THE LOWEST IN THE PAST FEW YEARS, COMPARED TO 78, 77 AND 86 IN 2007-2009. Any theories on why? PV program too big? Just a random occurence that this year saw an abnormally high influx of alumni’s children and/or siblings?? I for one think the PV program ought to be kept small, especially if they arbitrarily decide who to give it to.

The number for P1 and 2A is more this year.

Hmmm... maybe that won't repeat next year... could have been a random occurence... :?
Some kids spend 3 hrs on road to travel to schools in this area depriving others who live near to it not able to get in. Sometimes I just wonder why parents want to put their kids through such travelling 'torture'. I rather my kid spend the time in revising work or sleeping comfortably at home. They are so young, can't protect themselves if anything happen on the bus.

The demand can't meet supply b/c of all the students travelling there from all over the island! Despite the area's population density is among the lowest in the country (correct me if I'm wrong). There are too many top schools concentrated in one area.

Just an idea: how about MOE moves one of the most popular schools, e.g. NYPS or RGPS away from this area? They are not supported by good infrastructure in the first place. Then all the traffic problems in the area will be solved. But of course property owners in that area will strongly object 😉

what you are saying is supply can't meet demand

we will be happy if demand can't meet supply

how to move the school ? NYPS is on founder's land,RGPS just shifted all the way there recently
oops, it's a typo  :clubmyself:
            you have sharp eyes verykiasu2010!
NYPS can still sell their land and move to a bigger place, although it's easier said than done 😓

              Liverpool,

PVs should be kept to a reasonable number. Hopefully, the number of grassroot/religious groups is also controlled but that is not possible.
This year, Phase 1 in some schools have taken up a huge number of vacancies.

I suspect the problem lies in phase 2A2 - For a child whose parent or sibling has studied in the school of choice; or whose parent is a staff member of the school of choice. How many of us have children with such wide age gap e.g. 6 or more years apart. Most parents would have signed up alumni. This is the phase that is easily unaccounted for.........that's my opinion.

Not all schools have alumni though...Pei Hwa doesnt have alumni and that explains the big number of parents who registered under 2A2. Also there are some who missed the deadline to join alumni, that is why they have to register under 2A2 as well.

The staff from the school I registered said the sudden shortage in 2B&C are due to a spike in alumni kids. DH thinks it is due to returning Singaporean as the economy in the west is not doing so well. This explains the surge in alumni registration. Some suggest PRs/new citizens are to blame but how many are alumni in Spore primary schools?? 😐

As for FT, we will only see the impact in phase 3.

For parents who are involved in the balloting for phase 2C in these schools, good luck and all the best. For those who have moved into D10 and D11, it is our detached gahmen’s way of compensating you. Since most of you have neither a chance to vote in your life or in the last 10 years, at least you can get to ballot…isn’t this exciting…Cheerio, there is more to life than P1 registration.

Hi Lionel, I am also one of the 2C parents subjected to ballot. Totally agree with you and of coz, if we have more ‘voices’ it will make the appeal impact greater.

When do you intend to go down?
