      Daddy:
Ming Hao bought 3/8kg of flour. He gave 1/3 of it to his sister and used 1/6 of it. How much flour was left in the end?
      Hi

This question touches on product of proper fraction. You may wish to refer to P5 textbook for more reading. You may also use MD to solve this problem.

A question like this may look easy at first glance, but it can be tricky.

      Sister ----- 1/3 of 3/8 ----- 3/24 -----6/48
      Used ------ 1/6 of 3/8 ----- 3/48
      Original amount ------ 3/8 -------18/48
      Flour left -------- 18/48 – 6/48 – 3/48 ------9/48 -----3/16

      Try this one
Mr Ong had 5kg of rice. After he sold 5/12 of it, he repacked the remaining rice into smaller packets of 2/3kg each. How much rice had he left?

      Happy National Day

      Best wishes

        Dear maths guru,

        Need help!

        Q. Ming Hao bought 3/8kg of flour. He gave 1/3 of it to his sister and used 1/6 of it. How much flour was left in the end?

        Thanks
        Daddy
        Fraction of flour left = 6/6 – 2/6 – 1/6 = ½

        Amt of flour left = ½ x 3/8kg = 3/16kg

          Hi tianzhu,

I really relished your comment about how you treasure the moments that you spent with your son and wife picking sea shells. These are the comments that remind parents that life is not all about just - marks, CoPs, DSA, PSLE and the rat-race to top schools.

Children can spend more time with parents and vice versa only when they are young. Your comment was a timely reminder. I do not know why you chose to ‘edit out’ those comments. In future, please include more such comments. I will be most grateful to you.

          Thanks again, tianzhu.

            Hi Kiasu Friend

            You’re welcome.

I didn’t expect much attention to my earlier comment. When I worked on my solution this morning, the word pebble touched me very much. It reminds me of the many happy moments my wife and I had with our boy when he was younger, picking up seashells and pebbles at beaches. Time flies, he is now a big boy. He has much less time for us now.

While reading my post again, I felt this comment may be offside in a Maths thread, so I took it out.

Enjoy your moments with your kid.

            Best wishes

              Hi Tianzhu,
Many thanks for providing the solution to my question and you are certainly very helpful and thoughtful. And you have included pebbles in the powerpoint as well, very nice 🙂
Glad my nick pebble brings back some fond memories of yours.
I remember few years back I found a nice pebble in my girl's pockets and realised she took it secretly when we went for showflat viewing. And we love picking seashells at beaches as well .
Time really flies and let's treasure what we have now !

Happy an enjoyable long weekends !:celebrate:

                Hi folks,

                I need some help here:

Mary has a total of 156 red and blue pens in the ratio 7:6. After giving away an equal number of each type of pen, the number of red and blue pens left was in the ratio 7:3. How many pens did she did away altogether?

                Many thanks.

                        Somehow agreed, for :

                        R:B
                        7:6

                        7u+6u=13u

However, 158 cannot be divided by 13.....
