My pil are true blue peranakan. They are also very traditional and they have four sons.

They expect everyone kneel down infront of them during cny....I break it all...since then, every dil no need to keel.

My sil also all eyeing for pil so called wealth and they really kow tow to them but at the back talk bad about them.'

For me, I dont bend as I dont see the need as I believe in we should work for what we want...and we are doing fine , so why so ke lou...To me, gu qi is impt and I also dont like being a xiao xi fu.

You sound like my girl friend, you gu qi...hey, I like you.

      Thank you!

Guess I know I have to be a tall-standing daughter of my parents who have been holding me like a precious gem proudly in their heart. I couldn't allow myself to bend and please in the name of others' money or power as I feel that will bring heartache to them (can't imagine if I choose to be a 'little daughter-in-law' and allow them to order me here and there, how heartache my parents will feel when my parents don't even do that to me).

I stayed a few years with my in-laws after marriage and my mum was constantly worried about I got bullied coz she perceives them as 'how lian', and in addition, I still have a difficult to get along sister-in-law, older than me 15 years, who once in a while will talk like I married my husband coz of his $$$. Hers are quite direct hints that really pissed me off and my relationship with her is cordial on surface but deep under, each thinking about otherwise. She will be the key 'fighter' of the inheritance and I am still thinking of whether to join in the fun, not so much for the money, but just for the thrill to 'defeat' her (I do enjoy a good 'mind game'). Just for more meat to my story, I have an 'ACE' card in my hand, that my son is the only male heir to that old fashioned family. Hahaha...chances are I will not go join the game lah unless my this sis-in-law wants to play real dirty with me then I may show her some true colours.

Usually in making any life's major decision, I will have my parents in mind as one of the deciding factors - whether my decision will bring any shame or heartache to them - and I will then decide accordingly...

PS: To be fair to my parents-in-law. Both do dote on me but they carry themselves with a supreme kind of air that is sometimes difficult to tahan... Their rules of \"What makes a good daughter-in-law?\" are similar to those ancient people... (modern me can understand but can only do about 20% of it...). The first time uttering \"老爷,奶奶\" (in Cantonese for dad-in-law and mum-in-law) to them was so tongue-twisting-like that made all my hairs stand... kakaka...

Hahahah, I think we are different in one way...I wake up way before my pil and I dont play majong....

In a way, pil tho firm but respect my territory.I dont kneel infront of them cos my parents do not expect me to do that...hmmm...actually for my family, this act is only done when.......

I am Ok with the kneeling and kow tow part during festive days... but those other rules like have to always wake up before them in the morning, make sure that their breakfast is ready before they reach the kitchen, setting me a curfew time to reach home (then I cannot play mahjong at night! kakaka), etc, etc, wow...bird in a cage again!

PS: No joke they wake up around 5 to 5.30 am daily...They do have maids but in their minds, serve or oversee by a daughter-in-law is not the same as being served by maids...Tough mann...

Wow insider... I think your story is good enough to make into a drama series... Cos there are enough plots to make it dramatic 😉

Will yours be something like Red Threads airing on Channel 5 or the previous Masters of the Sea type?

Errr... I seldom watch TV...so dont know what are those above...

My childhood days also very interesting one (working since 6 years old and met all sorts of things). I consider my life very tough and colourful and deep in me, I may choose to be a devoted nun when the time is ripe...

My story is the oldest one, cos it begins some 35,000 years ago when pre-modern mankind first dug 3 holes in a mammoth tusk and invented the flute.
              ...
.... We met in orchestra CCA in NUS. He was one year my junior since he just came out of NS.
              BLAH BLAH BLAH

Bro, you went from flute to clarinet to fluke. We want to hear how you court Schellen or Ebi-whatever, not the flute or clarinet. Ah, foreplay foreplay! :romance:

              :siam:
Wuah! Dun recall seeing love story from this brader... then suddenly he

Ah... I would like to, but unfortunately I'm not stoic enough to possess that inner woman 😉

Anyway, just a couple of posts above someone says that she's \"changing her taste to love women\". Maybe she has an inner man that's trying to break out? :celebrate:

Sorry to nitpick, but must say that Ebi-Chan is no human... she's a goddess  .
