First and foremost, do report strength to newbies.
Click KiasuParents index and you'll find it..
We all wanna know about you... ALL about
you. And also welcome you to KSP properly.
2ndly, depending on where you stay... which you
have not shared are they both within the radius.
Both are good schools. Better is really a matter
of personal preference. Whether its aesthetics
strength you're looking for... or solid academic
record you are more inclined to.
A friend PV'ed @ SV and has only good things to
say about it. She also PV'ed at other schools
within the radius in case she may not get into SV.
She eventually did and last i met her she still
has fantastic things to share abt the school.
Apart from it being a newer school with more
updated facilities, she shared that the teachers
she has met were younger, and more creative.
The PSG's there have good relationship with the
school and its teachers.
Kop, every school will have its strengths and will
be good to go for their open house to recce and
see the school environment yourself.. SV last
year had open house with activities for children
to do as well. Look out for it!
But if you're kiasu enuf...
Can always call the school
come Monday and ask
them directly! Hehee!
Cheerios.
Here's wishing you a fantastic
weekend with yer family..

You must've been dozing off watching over that concoction of
stewed pear le... hope he'll get better soon. Cough can really
suppress proper sleep / rest... for child and parent alike.
No worries. We do suggest every now and then to keep posts to
specific threads but newbies can be very excited, so they post b4
exploring the forum (navigating the way around here...) and they
post questions prior to reporting to the Chief! Anyway, as mentioned
posting in specific threads makes it easier and better to track. Like
jedamum says - good housekeeping. It's not been good housekeeping
so far...
It's been GREAT!
Now go back to sleep.. :snooze:
I can direct traffic for a bit till you wake up!

Hi,
I am planning to register my son to YEw Tee Primary School this year (< 1km from my house). Can anyone give me some information about this school ? -
In my opinion, south view may have been the better school among all these schools in cck but it is not significantly better.
So dont expect a miracle to happen to your child. You still have to push your child, check his homework, send him for enrichment.
I think going to a neighbouring <1km school would be a better idea. (comparing just all the schools in CCK) (No GEP schools, No second rated school like rulang, aitongβ¦) -
I'm torn between SV (<1km away) and BPPS (old girl, confirmed a place and no need PV). Have to decide now if I wanna be a PV at SV as P1 reg in 2010. Can you elaborate on the school and its learning environment? Is the school academically stressful? I am comparing these 2 schools and it seems that SV offers more CCAs which looks more happening.
Hi Pandafarm,
I am sorry this reply comes real late... I have not been reading this thread for a while and was away in March as well. Well, the school is indeed happening and academically challenging especially in P5/6. But I must say that the teachers prepare the students very well for the PSLE. The teachers even have oral practice for both languages regularly.
Take my daughter who is in P6 this year, she has supplementary lessons on Tuesday(E & M), Chinese (Wed & Thur), and Science (Fri). Her weekdays are occupied with supplementary classes and homework.
As such, there is no need for her to go for additional tuition classes. In fact, she has missed her Chinese tuition class (the only tuition she has) numerous times due to her tight schedule. I'm considering dropping the tuition since she has \"enough\" Chinese lessons.
It is true that the PSLE students have to return to school during the holidays for extra lessons. My son did that last year but it was only for the first and last week of the hols. The compulsory classes were in the morning but additional enrichment classes (science and writing programs by external agencies) were conducted in the afternoons. However, these classes were optional.
My son who did his PSLE last year did not sign up for the optional classes. We even had time to go for a one week vacation.
I guess it's all about time management. Despite the \"homework rich\" environment, both my kids love their school a lot. School life is not about academic achievement alone and I make sure and encourage them to be actively involved in their respective CCAs.
My son, together with some of his ex-classmates.,even went back to help out at the SV Prefects' Camp during the March hols. He and his pr 6 buddies(from different sec school) still meet regularly for their football game on Sunday morning at SV field (open to public on Sunday).
And my girl, despite her tight schedule, still managed to squeeze out time on Saturdays to attend her classmates' birthday celebrations (quite a few this year). As a parent, I'm satisfied with the school as a whole. I'm thankful for the opportunities the school provided to allow my children to excel and grow in their respective areas. I'm especially grateful to their teachers, most (though not all) are very hardworking and caring.
I believe it's for the parents and the child to make the best of the learning environment given for effective learning and holistic development to take place. Indeed, there is no miracle schools - no school, no matter how good (GEP, second-rated???? what's that?) can create a miracle in a child if he/she is not willing to put in effort and learn. I agree that SV is not significantly better than the others but it has proven to be BEST for my children so far.
However, among my son's classmates, I do see a lot of miracles happening during the release of the PSLE results - may be more due to the motivation of the students...
I can't comment on BPPS as I'm not familiar with its program. Hope the above helps!JMHO -
Hi csc
I'm considering enrolling my son into SV and have completed my PV hours. I managed to take a glimpse into the school life and though I like what I see, well, it's not perfect but I accept the \"imperfections\" ... just want to find out if there's any talk of reduce in enrollment? Schools are going towards single session classes and that would mean the numbers have to be cut.
Are the supplementary lessons compulsory btw?
ps. I'm a newbie ... will post in newbie forum soon

Hi xjysg,
Hi, welcome to Kiasuparents.com!
Well, I do not belong to any Parents-Teachers association in the school. Neither do I work for them though I think, I may make a good PR ( )...
I am also not one of those who stand at the gate before dismissal to chat with other parents to be in the loop of what's going on...
So , I'm afraid I won't be able to help you with your question on reduction in enrolment. As far as I know, only the principal and her exco may be informed through a circular from MOE. You may want to call the VP for Administration to find out.
From past statistics, parents who PV usually will have no problem in securing a place for their child there. Hope it is so for yours this year.
As for whether supp classes are compulsory, I think it depends on the child's form teacher. For my children, the classes are actually extended lessons to complete the year's syllabus and to go thru the various worksheets. So if the child misses those lessons, he or she will have a lot to catch up.
All the best!
