In my opinion, there is nothing to be careful or smart about over volunteer works. The reason why some get recommended, or not, simply due to the popularity of the school they are interested in. The clan has constraints to recommend everyone.

For example Tao Nan and Ai Tong are the favourite among members, thus a cut off is set in order to get recommended due to overwhelming demand.

i believe that SHHK would very much like to issue letters to every member that requested for it but is constrainted by the schools who have limited vacancies & have to cater to PV & Grassroots Leaders too.

Hmmm... if the schs are still going to have balloting for Phase 2B... wat diff does it make for SHHK to limit it's recommedation letter... assuming it's members are eligible.[/quote]it depends on schools. We got the SHHK recommendation letter that qualified us in Phase 2B. For the school that we applied for, balloting was done only for >2km, and we fell in the group 1-2km, so was saved from having to ballot.

          Hi

          I’m new parent…but just out of curiousity…

So if u are aiming for 1 particular school, say under phase 2B…then if failed…cannot go back to register under earlier phase right (ie alumni or within that 1km thingy?)

            Hi,

I’m keen to find out more on SJI Junior - planning to register my son there when he’s Primary 1.

            - Does anyone know if they have PV programme there?
            - Would it help if I ask his kindergarten principal to write a recommendation letter? (he’s at Marymount kindergarten)
            - Does it help if only one parent is Catholic and was from a Catholic school?
            - Do I need to show my baptism cert upon registration?
            - Woudl it help if I know 2 teachers who teach in that school and how can they help?

            Appreciate any advice! Thanks.

              Hi Lynettewoo,

No, SJIJ does not have a PV programme for parents whose kids are not enrolled. Their PV programme is strictly for parents with kids already enrolled.

A letter from the principal of the kindergarten and knowing two teachers there would not help at all as the P1 registration process is run strictly by rules set down by MOE, and of which the principal has no leeway. If you are unable to register there and put your son on the waiting list, these might help as after Phase 3, the school has the discretion to admit any child should spaces become available.

If at least one parent and the child are baptised Catholics, that would qualify for registration within Phase 2B. You would need to bring both baptism certs to the school during registration, to show proof that you are Catholic.

If one of the parent studied in any Catholic school (CHIJ, Marymount, St. Patricks...), it holds absolutely no advantage during registration. Unless the school in question is SJIJ (or its predecessor St Michaels) which would then entitle you to register under Phase 2A.

Hope this answers your questions. When will you be registering?

Nope. The phases are conducted sequentially, so Phase 2B happens after Phase 2A (2A1 for ex-students who are alumni members; 2A2 for ex-students who do not belong to the alumni) has completed. If you fail at P2B, your next option would be in Phase 2C. You can read all about the phases at MOE's web site: http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/primary-one-registration/phases/

Distance comes into play in every phase (except Phase 3 which is first-come-first-served) when the applicants outnumber available places.

I'd encourage you to read through this forum thoroughly and you should be able to glean good tips on the P1 registration process. Good luck!

My son goes to Pri 1 only in 2014! But I'm just trying to gather more info now so I can be better prepared. One of my friends was recently stuck without a favourable school for her duaghter cos she didn't start early enough.

My son is not baptised, but I am a baptised Catholic - would this still qualify under Phase 2B? We live about 4km away, so the 2 km rule is out of the question. If I were to be eligible for Phase 2B, what are the chances that my son can get a place?

                  Appreciate your response!

                    no you cant.

once registration for a phase is closed, it is closed. you can't register under any phase that had closed.

SHHK membership approval completed last Thursday, next approval on Mar 2011. Committee will review/approve application twice a year only.
