Sometimes, when we do not get what we want, we should stop and look at what we HAVE. A loving family, healthy kids, a happy, normal life. Not many people in the world has all that.


There are more important things in the world than getting your child into a school.

I remember an old Robert Redford show called http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0068334/back in 1972. It was about an upstart young man who won the Presidential election based purely on his charisma. The most shocking moment for me was how, at the end of the show, when the doors closed behind him leaving alone in the Oval office, his face fell as he muttered... \"Now what?\". He was so focused on the presidential race that he forgot about the raison d'etre - the reason for being.

Don't forget your main reason for wanting to put your kid in a good school - it's to give your kid the best opportunity to succeed in life as best as you see fit. The fact is, self-motivation, confidence and perseverence are the true key measure of success in education. It is only when we have that that we can succeed materially, be it academically or financially. Getting into an elite school is not a pre-requisite for one to receive good character education. When I was first in St Andrew's, I was placed in the worst class of the school. It was almost like a death sentence. Everyone in class knows that we are \"inferior\" to the other classes. Yet we were blessed to have the BEST teacher in the whole school who insisted on being our form teacher. She made that difference in my life.

There are good teachers in all schools - teachers that really want to make a difference in the lives of their charges. And the ones that are really good in this aspect can be found in the lower tiered schools that people tend to ignore.

Backup schools are the same in terms of everything so will apply for which I dont have to go thru balloting again :P[/quote]

get the kid to work hard, top the class, top the cohort, apply for transfer to your ideal school later - not too late, and nothing is permanent

Don't lose heart...I know, easier said than done.
Go for your backup school. Work hard with your child, score high grades and then transfer. I know of someone who did that. It's possible.

Yes dear but I dont wanna pressurize my son too so lets c how it goes.. thanks for the wishes :celebrate:

No worries, I know the feeling sucks. Work hard with your son, not just because of transfer. Important to build up that foundation at lower primary.

if you go with the tide and take it easy because no exams in P1 & P2, then the realisation after P2 is too late

Sorry to have to mention this word again, but foundation is the key at lower primary.

Maths especially is built on foundation esp when you go upper pri. MOE tells parents no CA nor SA at P1, but that doesn’t mean parents relax and bochap. Personally I would prefer SA1 and SA2 at P1/2. Gotta be ‘ON’ once kids go to primary school, but not not overly kiasu and kiasi by signing up child up for all the different subjects.
