No need to thank me lah. I did it for my boy a few years back and was about to discard the file when I bought a new computer recently. Then I saw your posts on this thingy, thought I might as well pass it on. But I forgot to save it back on the old office version after opening up the file in Office 7.

And yes, for the letter \"q\", I had to add in the tail myself so that my kid is not confused.

I like to create teaching materials on computer eg phonics chart, Chinese characters etc... because it saves space and is \"greener\".

My sharing here has a lot to do with supporting
our stay home parents with limited financial or
physical resources, but can afford the time to
work on things during their free time. I realised
during my SAHM years that some of us can get
very little support on home education and i hope
to assist my fellow SAHMs with what i know and
when i have time to share.

Sharing here also seemed to help provide guidance
to working mothers who cannot find time to surf for
ideas or stuff but they WANT to provide quality teaching
for their children whenever they can. I have absolute :salute:
respect for involved parents... regardless, the daddy or mommy..
hence, the sharings are also dedicated to you guys. :celebrate:

Being able to make varying materials also helps
to diversify the stuff that our children see and use
at home for learning thru' play. More to come...

I need ur advice, feeling so frustrated cause i am like stucked when it comes to teaching my ger letter names and phonics.

After reading the forum sometime back, i bought the leapfrog dvds to tach my ger phonics abt half yr ago. Now she is 2.5 , yes… she is addicted to the leapfrog dvds however she is a bit confused betwwen letter names and sounds.

There are a few problems here:
1) she is confused betwwen letter names and sounds.
2) she does not seem to recognise all the letters, sometimes when she does she will either tell me thir sound or sometimes names.
3)she does not seem to be interested in learning, any other ways to teach her to differentiate between e names n sounds?
4) i myself is not gd at phonics, i am pretty confused of the sounds a, o , u and l. any other ways to learn them? i tried watching starfall so many times but still cant get it…

I need help for all these, just a bit upset that after half yr still stucked.

How? Now i have a nb to take care so even less time with my ger, so hoping to spend quality time to teach her.

There are a few problems here:

This is the very reason why i never encourage parents to introduce phonetic sounds prior to learning letter names. It confuses little minds. They won't be able to distinguish what you ask of them - ie. letter names or sounds.

Children should ideally (my preference and recommendation entirely) be introduced to letter names first. In tandem, parents can teach how the letters are shaped as well. After which parents should follow-up by playing matching letter shapes together while asking them for the letter names.

Phonics can come in much later. I do find that parents these days are becoming more obsessed with getting their children to read very early.. very fast.. very siong for them. Learning to read should be an enjoyable experience so that they will continue to read for a very long time. :love:

You should focus on going back to foundation of concepts rather than going into differentiation. You can make or purchase alphabet flashcards for her and set on teaching her the letter names and letter shapes first. Forget about the phonemic awareness part for now. Without knowing how a letter is shaped, the child will not know what letter name it represents and in doing so will confuse her when it comes to asking for the letter sounds.

You can play this game below... but swap the idea of the game to encourage letter names instead.

ie. \"ay\" is for aeroplane.. let's see if there are other objects beginning with \"ay\" in the bag.. oh wow.. what have you got there?.. Is that an asparagus? (etc)
