Actually, there's no need to rush for theory. You will only need to do Grade 5 when you are in Grade 6 for practical. For my children, I did not bother to rush, until about 7 or 8, when they are ready. All my kids took Grade 5 theory at about 8 and they do well. Then they move on to do higher grades with that Grade 5 theory. So no need to rush lah. I know it is hard for a 5 yo to do theory.
Oh ya, tt's what I planned to do, if we decide to let our child go for the audition and IF gets in, then I'll talk to the teacher(s) involved before deciding if to carry on. That's wat I meant by perhaps I shld speak to the teachers, :).
I wasn't the one rushing leh, it was the current teacher! hahaha. She kept asking me if I wanna sign up for the ABRSM grading exam and said that my child's ready - my kid has only started for abt 1/2 yr only then. I had pushed it off til I finally gave in at the last min(closing date for regn). From then, I had initially regret agreeing to it hahaha, 'cos I went thru bouts of 'vomit blood' incidents 'cos it's really hard to go thru/explain the sight-reading, rhythm clapping, blah blah with such a young kid when basic mathematics are not even taught at Kindy at all. However, I now appreciate it 'cos becos of the 'push' of the exam, my kid is now able to try out new pieces independantly. So, the theory part is very important as well I would say.
Anyway, all your contributions are great and I will treat them all as references. Thanks!

Hi, Petlover,
Run through your message, thinking your child might be an exsiting student in Nafa Violin. How’s his/her progress? what about teacher? Hope you can give me some advice.
Thank you.

yes, my girl is still in NAFA violin. So far so good, she spends about 30 - 45 mins everyday to practice and can manage it well. Her recent exam result was quite good and even got a chance to perform on the stage. Hope she can continue ....
Most of teachers are quite good in NAFA. You may have known that NAFA's mission is to groom the performers on the stage, for me it's just like other competitive CCA which you may need to allocate 6 to 9 hrs every week to practice, and it may not suit every kid. However, the good thing for NAFA is that you can usually change to private lesson if you like the teacher but don't like their system

Hi, Petlover,
Glad to know that your daughter is doing so well in that competitive environment, especially by just 30-45 min. daily practicing.
Very much appreciate your input.
In fact, I m thinking to find a Nafa violin teacher to teach my son 8 years old (grade 4) privately, apply similar method or syll. to guide the student. Is it possible to get in touch with one of them? As I know most teachers in Nafa are from China, have very good skills. My son has musical potential, is studying in a local commercial music school, but I try to get him a more devoted teacher as well as more formal path.
Sincerely appreciate your advice.

Hi BSC,
Just PM you. Yes most of them are from China with solid skills, some of them are also members of the SSO. -
Thank you Petlover, I read and replied your PM.
