I guess all concerns regarding the waitlist will be addressed during the briefing. Good luck to all on the waitlist.
thanks !ningy:
:congrats: to all who got CO or waiting list from RI and HCI !!
At least the wait is over and the kids can concentrate on PSLE starting tomorrow. Btw, i think many with CO from HCI (especially GEPers) will accept offers fr RI; so those on waiting list should have high hopes. Btw, anyone (Verykiasu2010 ?) know how many students are on waitlist #1 and waitlist #2 for HCI ? wonder if Ruyu receive any news ? he is so quiet these days....
not sure about the wait list
the CO letter also did not mention any briefing while others' have briefing date -

Pen88n:
Some background info to share (from my understanding) -If a mainstreamer is to score 250 or 24x, he will not even have the opportunity to enter any IP school. I also know of mainstreamer who is at 25x and did well enough in other secondary schools to later join DHS / NJC at Sec 3 intake. So I still question: why can't GEP kids go to other secondary schools like mainstreamers if they do not fare well in PSLE? Why should they be given the DSA advantage - just becos they are chosen to be in GEP in P3?
On GEP not preparing kids for PSLE or mainstream paper, I think this is something easily resolved by GEP teachers teaching the \"right\" PSLE answers and techniques. In maintream, there are teachers not teaching the \"right\" PSLE answers and techniques as well - you can see from post from parents about teachers not covering more \"chim\" Maths questions.
I'm all for DSA for nurturing special talents and providing special talent groups a route beyond normal PSLE (eg. sports, music, etc.). But when this DSA exercise becomes an unfair advantage to a GEP group chosen at P3, I question the basis of DSA and I think it makes the GEP become meaningless when ks parents now frantically \"groom giftedness\".
Just as there are 9 primary schools offering the GEP, there used to be designated secondary schools offering the MOE GEP where the primary GEP students continue to. However, when IP was implemented around 2004, the MOE's centrally run Secondary GEP was gradually phased out (completely by 2008). Rational was that there was no need for 2 programs catering to the same group of students (GEP is for the top 1% of the cohort and the IP covers the top 10% of the student population) and most of the GEP kids chose to go to the IP schools anyway.
Currently, there are 11 IP schools. Of these 11 schools, 7 schools offer School-Based Gifted Education (SBGE). These 7 schools are Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), Dunman High School, Hwa Chong Institution (High School), Nanyang Girls’ High School, NUS High School of Mathematics and Science, Raffles Girls’ School (Secondary) and Raffles Institution. [If I'm not mistaken, all except for NUS High used to be MOE GEP secondary schools]. The 4 remaining schools offer their own IP which are not equivalent to SBGE.
Maybe this can give you an idea of why GEP kids apply mostly to these schools and how these schools evaluate the GEP kids through DSA. -
oh no, some one got CO from RI but did not get anything from HCI … but preference is HCI … ironical to some …
