Which Country Suitable For Young Children?

I always find Australia a good place to explore with young kids. The country is generally child friendly. And seriously, how wrong can one go with farmstays and theme parks and beaches.


China in December will be very cold.

If going Australia in Dec would be hot, I would rather give it a miss. Actually would prefer to visit the Chinese country as in a way to get them expose to chinese roots & teachings. The Ang Moh contries maybe can save it for next time.

Does China have any theme park? Wonder should target which part of China.

Personally, I have been to Taiwan 2 times and dun think it's very kid-friendly, depending on your child's age. First, the hygiene level is not very good, traffic chaotic and there doesn't seem to be many interesting places where kids would love to go. If you just go for the themeparks, they are nothing to shout about. It's not a Disneyland so maybe our Universal Studios may be a better and cheaper idea. Scenic places (Yeliu rocks etc)can also be boring for kids.

The only fun stuff to do are the shopping (clothes, shoes etc) and eating (at the night markets). I don't think young kids would find shopping for mom's shoes and eating at roadside stalls very fun (my son wants the aircon all the time). And when we women shop, I don't think we like our kids to be begging us to go back to the hotel! If you are visiting outside of Taipei, guess you can visit the farms.

I personally would not bring my kids there till they are at least teenagers. The best places for young kids would be ANZ, Japan, HK, Club Meds, US/Canada, Malaysia and maybe South Korea.

Besides the fun factor, we gotta consider their safety, hygiene (esp clean toilets), availability of kid-friendly food, access to supermarkets (for fruits, drinks etc), self-drive possibilities etc.

My cousin brought her brood of 4 to Xiamen and they had a wonderful time there. Not too sure what activities they did or where they went though.
Her kids are 13, 10, 5 and 2yo.

We are thinking of an overseas holiday this coming Dec as helper would be returning home for a 2-weeks visit. Two boys, DS1 is coming to 4-yrs while DS2 is coming to 18-months. Being to Hong Kong when DS2 was 6-mths old and still on BF.


Now, facing two problems,

(a) Destination - as northern hemisphere would be cold while southern hemisphere would be warm - and spouse don’t take trips to Malaysia as holiday; and

(b) Meals for DS2.

Hmm… in a dilemma and needs advice. Thanks in advance.

I often see comments about it being hot in australia during December. Personally, I think it really depends on which part of Australia. The Dec weather in Victoria, NSW, South Australia n Tasmania is similar to Singapore weather. In fact, it turns cool towards the end of the day, but the humidity is more manageable than in Singapore. The hottest months in Australia is actually January to February.


3 years ago, we visited Cairns in early December. Weather was just like Singapore, hot n humid. But the weather was great for visiting the Great Barrier Reef, without having to worry about my 6 year old catching a chill. She was in the sea the whole time except breaking for lunch. Down side is : it’s jelly fish season in the summer months.

What about New Zealand? I’ve never been there myself, but I reckon weather there should be fairly nice even in the summer months?
