I must admit I wasn’t very keen on Origami until my son’s shichida teacher get them to fold a Origami cup (with mummy’s help of course) one of the lessons. Boy really enjoys it and decorating it after wards…

It’s interesting how origami is associated with developing the right brain and there is ev en a thesis written on it!

A few years ago, I bought a few books on origami from Popular. I can’t remember the series but the books are made from thick, good quality paper with colour pictures and step-by-step instructions. The size of each book is about 15cm x 15cm and each book has a theme, for e.g., fishes, land creatures, etc. The price is not expensive. However, everything is in Chinese so if your Chinese isn’t good…can still follow pictures most of the time. The books are simple enough for children to follow.


I only have one problem with the books; the binding makes it difficult for the books to stay open at the page I want so I always use something heavy to weigh down the sides.

If anyone’s interested, I can find the titles when I get home tonight.

For nice and cheap origami paper, go to Daiso. They have a wide selection. I prefer to buy from them than from Popular cos the latter has less to choose from and designs are quite boring (and more expensive).


I got plaid patterns, double-sided colour (different colour on each side), transparent (more like plastic), flowers, etc. And they are also thinner so easier to fold and you get better results. (The papers from Popular are thicker and I usually end up "disfiguring" or "distorting" my product when I use it.)
