[Toa Payoh] Primary Schools
-
MMM,
Agree with you.
Kids at kindy level do not know so much about elite/prestigious schools, and different type of schools unless parents have been feeding/educating them about how good so-and-so school is.
Firstly, do not count chickens b4 they hatch, esp with the high take up rate. Secondly, why give kids that idea they are in elite schools ? Young children will get snobbish IF they get in, look down on kids in other schools. -
The P1 registration caught us off guard this year. Looking at the history of balloting, most children would have been successful within 1km under phase2C. I am staying within 1km from these schools, if i am lucky, doesn’t matter whether it is RGPS or NYPS, i will secure a place.
Peer pressure comes from parents and children. Can’t help it when parents all think alike and all their cousins/neighbourhood friends go to the same/popular schools.
For us parents, we will do utmost first not to deny our children the choice if we can help it. If we can’t, there are neighbourhood schools to take them in…be it in Toa Payoh, Novena or Clementi. -

I also made the mistake of telling my DS that we will send him to Cat Hi since last year, thinking we stood a good chance, 2B, 1km and all. Kept pointing to it when we drove past but he thought we wanted him there just for the distance (thank God I didn't say CHS was good). Had a rude shock when left with only 9 seats. Luckily he was happy when we registered for MSH coz it was similar and I harped on the badminton (which CHS doesn't have). Dunno where he got the idea but when I asked if he wanted to go to Ai Tong, he said nope coz ATS had to do a lot of work.
These kids are very impressionable... -

Kids now compare notes with one another. Thanks to this comparison, my son is afraid of having tutors for all subjects, as such he will cooperate with me. I do tell my CL tutor not to give too much homework unless it's the holidays.Dunno where he got the idea but when I asked if he wanted to go to Ai Tong, he said nope coz ATS had to do a lot of work.
Glad to know your son got into Maris Stella. -
Hmm.... I was feeding the \"benefits\" of various schools to my son!!
Eg: This school good cos downstairs our house so can wake up late, That school good cos your fren going also, This school good cos the uniform nice and comfortable, That school good cos can play computer for PE....
I think after awhile my son got \"fed up\" of me and he said - Aiya mummy - Anything ANYTHING - you decide which school!
Haha - Then now got into MS -- i have been drilling into him --- Here all speak Chinese -- so you better buck up! And he gave me that look!
My boy \"chiak kan tang\" one so lets hope he can survive!

Hi Juanthedragon,
Thank you all for your encouragement. Will ballot on monday. If i have registered at RGPS, I would not have ended up with 2 ballotings. Worst case, I will go to BHPS or PeiTong.............
Good luck to you on Monday!
We'll be rooting for you.

I fed the benefit of proximity to my son too, the same thing as what you told yours...the school very nearby, so it's possible to walk there. He told me, 'whatever lah, since you are the one who decides.'Hmm.... I was feeding the \"benefits\" of various schools to my son!!
