School fees: $175/month
School transport: $80/month for one-way
Kindermusik: $540 per term
I believe in inculcating a love for reading, so #1 and #2 get new books whenever they want. I probably spend about $50-100 on books, stationery and art supplies each month. -

Just curious, how does your child have time to go for so many classes when there's full day childcare?Adding mine

Got 3 Kids - DD3 still in P5, DS1 & DS2 in Upper Secondary…
Reading All your posts reminds me of All those classes I sent my DD3 to during Pre-schoool :
Ballet, Chinese Dance, Abacus, Chinese Caligraphy and Ink Painting, Piano, Speech And Drama, Art and Craft, Phonics, Han yu Ping Ying, P1 preparation classes, …
and running around busy ferrying DD3 to all the different classes All over Town … It was a mad Life …
Ever since DD3 enters P1 - Life has somehow stabilise. Less classes to attend (have to drop many classes - schedule clash).
DD3 makes the decision what she wants to continue and what to drop at the tender age of P1 (She’s rather decisive and mature for her age - in fact, she was the one who requests to attend Most of these Classes herself since she’s 4 years old).
But I got no Regret sending her to ALL these classes - she has tried them and knows exactly where her interest lies …
You are right, in Primary school there is a lot of CCA’s and Enrichment classes our kids can join - Some FOC, some co-payment, some full payment … but you get to choose and decide.
But there are other temptation like Overseas School Immersion Programme - my DD3 is asking me to fork out 1k+ to go to Taiwan for ~4 days at the year end (parents not accompanying) …
She has missed both the Surabaya and Chende (China) trips due to her Rhythmic Gym Competition schedule …
She is currently taking Chinese Creative Writing Tuition (once a week), Chinese Dance at NAFA ($500+ per semester, once a week), Rhythmic Gymnastics (3x a week - school team training, Private Gym - once a week, $500+ for 3 mths). So I guess the expense has been greatly reduced in Primary school.
Unless you want to send your kids to private tuition for every subjects - I have spoken to My DD3 classmate’s Dad and he told me that he spent 3k per child every month on Private Tuition Alone! (and he has 2 primary school kids at the time! Whew!) - excluding Enrichment Classes …
As for my Upper Secondary DS, They have mind of their own. They decide that Tuition is not for them, would rather study with their friends (form their own study Group).
DS1 is crazy over ANIME (Japanese cartoons) and spent most of his spare time & money on it. He collects ANIME figurines which he ordered directly from Japan and has his own glass case to display them.
DS2 is into Computer Games (Internet) "Big Time" and spent ALL his Spare time at Home facing the LCD Screen.
Of course you have to factor in ALL the Outings they have to join their friends, extras $$$$ …
But I know that Secondary School Private Tuition is at Least 2 times more expensive than Primary School - So it depends on how extensive you want your kids tuition to be. Also, if your kiddo is an exceptionally talented child, say, in violin, the monthly fees to be coached by a professional can be up to 3k per month.
Afraid you have to do your Maths when the time comes when your kids reach the grand old age of Secondary School - All the fees will be different by then, I guess … -

Hi chachaMrs Ang:
Is Shichida effective? I heard different feedbacks.
It's so true whether the course is effective or not entirely depending on the parents effort in home practicing, not on attending the 75 mins class once a week. It 's a lot of hard work to prepare and plan for teaching materials, but the actual execution itself is only 15 mins daily.
Furthermore, you really need to give your kid at least a year or two with the course to see some results.
So far, we've been very happy with ourselves and our kid progression. My gal has good memory. She can memorize at least 100 words by 18 mths old. Now she (25 mths old) try to read simple story book by herself.
sorry I know this is an old thread but I just joined KSP and just finished reading this thread.
What I wanted to ask is when you said that there is a lot of hardwork in preparing the teaching material, does it mean we have to do it ourself? How long does it take?
I read somewhere we have to do homework with our child at least 30mins a day if she enroll in Shichida for it to be effective.
30 mins consistently everyday would be a challenge but I guess I have to make a commitment to it but if even more time is required then I got to seriously reconsider to enroll.
Anyone else got experience to share? -

WAH!!!
Reading this really scare me. Make me feel even more firm about my decision to have just 1 child only. I had wanted a boy but now Grace would be fine enough.
I rather give everything to her than not enough for 3.
I am really surprised primary school and they are going to taiwan. I only went to taiwan when I was in the army.
I dont know what to say when it comes to her time especially she is a girl. I cannot imagine her at 9 yrs old going oversea without any parents...
Am glad that you have not regrets sending them to enrichment classes...I am thinking about starting mine on some...she is only 8 months old. -

We have tried Mr Tots Tennis (Turf City) and (East Coast Park) both are good, cost 350.00 or so per term. Its air conditioned and the coaches are pretty good. We have been there for only one term much of which was wasted due to illness and a long trip but hoping to see some improvement in co-ordination by the end of next term... Some 3 year olds who have been there for two or three terms are pretty good at hitting the sponge ball back to the coach.1. Age of kid: 2.5 yrs
