Was having this conversation with my bil that they can potentially use the caregiver route (as my pils stay at our place) to try to get into a school near our place. Good chance if she tries under 2B and using the caregiver route under 1-2km. Her house is not too far away from this school given that her son currently attends a preschool near our place too. Probably 10 - 15 mins drive away but it is not within 2km of their own address.


Her son is probably due for registration in 3 years time. Hubby was asking me.... can't his sister just change their address to our place??? I was like... it's all about integrity :roll:

I really wonder in reality, how many people will actually do that iso reporting themselves under caregiver??? I am just wondering if they have a HDB in their name, will it stop that from changing their address????? The process of changing address is not that difficult. You just need to prove to the police with a document that you stay there eg. phone bill, etc... in the case of parent's/ close relatives' place, people are not concerned if their letters end up in their relatives' house especially if they are close.

But to lynnettewoo's point, it's true that alot of parents are using the rented flat route to get their kid a place in the school. Even in this year's registration, I also heard from a close friend that her friend managed to get their child in some popular school by renting a house near that school... and they got in.

Just imagine... my mum had some long lost nephew knocking on her door one day just because she stayed within 1km of TNS. She even went to MOE with them but it was clear only grandparents are eligible..... Otherwise imagine those nanny staying near popular schools will be in great demand. Luckily, they never ask to change their address to her place.

I think if you really rented a flat near the school and live in there, no one can fault you even if your other home is far far far away (provided it is not HDB flat, because by law you need to live in your HDB flat)

Exactly, so there is a very fine line between renting a house or room and actually living there right? I feel its a waste if I were to forgo using my mum's rented address. And in reality, not many people can afford to buy or rent another place near the school of choice. And not forgetting the fact that the properties around SJIJ are all private, plus its a prime area, hence more expensive.

I also wanted to add - if I were to ask my mum to look after my son in her rented place, sacrificing comfort and study space etc, would this be feasible?

it is no fine line. i do understand in your position, you want to see things in your perspective

you should check out what is meant by making a false declaration

if you are desperate, why don't your own family rent a place there and LIVE IN there ?
